Man Attempts Suicide, Shoots Himself at Oceanside Gun Range

Just found out about this story today. Kinda crazy as I was just there a few days ago!

Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Latest Headlines: Riverside County Fire: Map Of Springs Fire Perimeter, Evacuation Areas; Californians Who Move Away Are Finding The Grass Really Is Greener, New UC Study Finds; Know A Star Student? Nominate Them To Be Featured On Patch!

The man sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, police said, adding that trauma support was provided for the man's companion.

A man attempted to kill himself at an Oceanside shooting range on Wednesday afternoon, turning a rented gun on himself to the horror of his companion.

According to U-T San Diego, the man, who was in his 40s or 50s, rented a gun from Iron Sights Shooting Range on Airport Road, went into a shooting stall with a companion, loaded the gun and shot himself. Oceanside police Lt. Steve Regalado told the newspaper that the shooting appears to have been intentional.

The man sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, police said, adding that trauma support was provided for the man's companion.

According to U-T San Diego, it is estimated that between 10 and 20 other people were in the building, including Iron Sights employees and customers.

Why can't these damn people just go drive out into the desert without water or something? Brought someone along to get past the "won't rent to a solo person without their own gun" I bet, way to crap on everyone else's life just because you think yours sucks so bad.

It's to bad that someone is so unstable and depressed that he takes his own life without thinking of unintended consequences. Bad for everyone involved.

These cases throw a lot of cold water on the "suicides with guns are spur of the moment decisions, if it only took 20 seconds longer they wouldn't do it" line since he had to arrange the trip with a friend, get to the range, check in, get the gun, load it then shoot himself.

If you are determined to kill yourself at least have the courtesy to do it at home. Don't make everyone else deal with your crap.

Next change in range rules: Must be parties of 3 or more to rent guns.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

Besides that he failed miserably. They should have let him bled out.

Well, so much for that spreading range rule of "No renting guns unless you have your own or are with a buddy" to prevent such things.
And on the third day, God created the Remington bolt-action rifle so that man could fight the dinosaurs. And the homosexuals.

Whatever problems this poor guy had, they just got a lot worse.

I think we each own our own lives, and should be able to use or dispose of them as we see fit... but it's unfortunate that this person chose to involve others in his intended passing. I'm sorry, that's just wrong.
