If the firearm is registered to you and used in a crime, you will be the primary suspect. That doesn't sound like fun and your vacation stash will be spent defending yourself. If your finger prints are on the gun, it won't make any difference if it's registered to you or not.As far as recovery, a good friend of mine had his office broken into and a very expensive pistol was stolen. He reported it and three years later, the police recovered it during a house search. He spent the next three years trying to get it from the local PD, but someone there wanted it more and keep stalling until my friend finally gave up. It's now in someone's private collection at the PD.
