How Much Ammo can you Fit in a 30 Cal Can?

A few days ago I picked up a couple of 30 cal ammo cans in hopes to make a little bit more room in my small gun safe... I was storing all my ammo in the original box that the ammo came in, needless to say it all wouldnt fit in my safe. I was storing my 223 and 12G out side my safe unsecured. After a few hours heres what it looks like.




Anyone here store their ammo in 30 can? How much 223, 9mm and 45 can you fit in it?

I've never counted on how much ammo fit in each can so I can't help ya there.

200 rounds of linked M80, just like the stencil says on the side.
I've got cans with over 3500 .22 in them, I think i have 500 round can of loose .223.

A friend of mine spray paints his can a color code. Silver is .22, blue is .45, red is 9mm, green is 308. He also rips the box label off and tapes it to the can so he knows what type and how old the ammo is.
I go through mine too fast to bother with the labels but I might paint them.

I use mostly .50 cans for mine. Never really counted how many fit, just fill 'em up!

I have 750 rounds of 45 ACP or 1,400 rounds of 9mm in a 30 caliber can. In the 50 caliber cans, I put 1,000 of 44 mag or 1,500 rounds of 357 mag. The 50 caliber cans get too heavy if you put real dense ammo like 9mm or 45 ACP in them. I'm not sure why the two other posters only get 1,000 rounds of 9mm in a 30 caliber can.

With the 1k 9mm rds, I just checked and I have about 1.5" of available space to cram in more ammo.

Whatsa ammo can magnet?

I have some .50 cans military packed with 840 rounds of 5.56, or so it says on the outside.

I have some M249 cans that are even bigger (held the hard case belt magazines) that I don't really want to fill with loose rounds because the cans will be too heavy.
