I am just curious if anyone knows of any challenge to the CCW regulations relating to the recent ban of open carry? It seems like a very convincing argument could be made that since open carry is banned and since CCW is near impossible then effectively California has banned firearms or at least the carrying of them.

Current challenges to ccw requirements?

A CCW permit is legal and obtainable in every state in the Union.
I have had no issues renewing mine.
Why do you say it is "near impossible" to attain?sigpicA well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. -

I've talked to many individuals who are still under the impression that a CCW is unobtainable in CA. Now, while I can't speak for any southern CA counties, I know that is is relatively easy to obtain one in northern CA. You've just gotta apply, act professionally, and pass your handgun qualification course.
Just apply, you might be pleasantly surprised.Comment

Depends on how far north you're talking. In the heavily populated areas(SF bay area, LA area, etc.) it's pretty unlikely. If you're in the middle of BFE, sure.I've talked to many individuals who are still under the impression that a CCW is unobtainable in CA. That argument has been made, we're waiting on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to decide if they agree with that argument or not. I believe the decisions in both court cases Richards and Peruta are expected in or near the fall. If the SCOTUS takes up a carry case before those cases are decided, expect them to be put on hold until the results of the SCOTUS decision.I am just curious if anyone knows of any challenge to the CCW regulations relating to the recent ban of open carry? Depends on the county you live in and in the difficult counties you need a "Good Cause" statement. The ability to acquire a CCW changes depending on the political environment and the current Sheriff. When I acquired mine from Sacramento County 12 years ago there were only 250 in the entire county. I believe they issue about 1,500 per year now and is considered to be pretty much "Shall Issue" should you have a clean background.
It all depends on the county you live in, when it comes to California. Take a look at the Carry forums and you could get an idea of what counties you could acquire a permit in.Comment

I hate asking questions like this, but is there anyone on these forums that we can talk to privately about our specific situations and how they apply to CG for a CCW? I live in LA county, so I know it is essentially "No Issue", but even then I think I have an exceptionally strong GC and "favorable factors", as LAPD put it. However, I don't want to blast my business all out in front of everyone.
I just need some help evaluating my actual chances and crafting a statement that sounds good- I'd probably drop too many F bombs on my own

CCW is impossible in LA County unless you are rich and famous. I pulled the form with the intention of applying, but quickly learned that unless I own a jewelery store and have been robbed two or three times, they won't even consider it. I must show a need - which includes actual incidents like getting the s*it kicked out of me first. Totally stupid. So when I hear that CCW is legal in CA, I want to scream like a girl.Comment
