I have this upper that i think is about 15 plus years old. I took it off of a Colt Heavy barrel. I have no idea what it is or why it would be made. The reason i took it off is because you couldnt use sights on it. They wouldnt line up. The upper is taller then any other upper. A regular upper is about 1 7/8 of an inch. (my stag upper). This one is a hair over 2 inch. It did have a scope on it when i got it and i soon found out why. So If anyone has any info it would help. Also if anyone knows if i could sell it and for how much that would be great! thanks!

A3/Flattop high rise type
It lets you get the scope a bit higher up.
Kind of a ***** if you are trying to use rifle sights though. An extreme solution for a relatively minor problem, instead of getting a taller scope mount put on a whole new upper that prevents you from using iron sights correctly.Last edited by robcoe; 07-20-2013, 10:37 PM.Yes, I am an electrical engineer.

Yeah i tried to mount standard sights on top of it. It sure didnt work at all! at 50 yards i was 4 feet off. lol but thanks for the info! does anyone know what it could be worth. I ended up just replacing it and going with a new one all together.Comment

Unless it's got some unique markings or is a famous brand, about as much as any other used stripped upper.Yes, I am an electrical engineer.

As stated earlier, it's got a raised rail specifically intended for scopes with a large objective lens (50mm or greater) without having to use tall rings. It raises the scope enough to allow the front part of the scope to clear the handguard.
Not intended for iron sights.Comment
