    Opposing hand and eye dominance

So I'm getting back into shooting. I know I have an opposing hand and eye dominance. In the past, I've really just shot by my dominant hand.

What is the general expert consensus on training with this condition? Handgun versus longgun? I just want to get started a bit on the right foot, so to speak, as this time I'm getting a bit more serious into the sport.

I shoot handgun with my dominant hand. I don't really shoot longguns as there's not much in the way of longgun ranges near where I live, but when I do get to, I shoot longguns according to my eye dominance.

does that make things easier when you have to go to the "weakhand"

I'm left-eye dominant and right handed. I just shoot everything left-handed because everything lines up with my dominant eye better. Strength in your weak hand can be developed over time. Anyways, just shoot whatever feels the most natural and the best for you.

I'm right handed and left eye dominant. I shoot pistols and rifles right handed. When I go to shoot rifles, I just use my right eye. It's worked for me so far.

                To clarify:
I am right handed, left eye dominant.

I found this out in Boy Scouts going for my rifle shooting merit badge.

I shoot rifles left handed using my dominant eye. If i am using an eotech or something similar then I usually shoot with both eyes open.

I shoot pistols right handed but still with both eyes open.

For handguns, I read somewhere that it helps if you rotate it gangsta-style if you are cross-dominant. Not full horizontal, but rotated just a bit towards your center. I don't know about anyone else, but the sights line up better for me about an hour off of the 12 o'clock mark.

The CAR system is supposed to correct for the opposite hand eye dominance problem (Left eye, right hand for me too). I haven't got it to work well for me yet (hard to see the exact technique from random videos ), but it does let me get a clear sight picture without shutting my right eye when shooting right handed. Before I started trying that I was shooting left handed, which wasn't that hard to get used to (I did shoot longbow left-handed before I got into guns, which may have helped).

Left - handed and right-eyed dominant. I have shot left-handed all my life, but only recently found out I'm right-eyed dominant. Finding out didn't change how I shot, except that I tried shooting right-handed and it was damned uncomfortable.

All rifle, btw. I'm not a handgun shooter.

You can always wear a patch over your dominant eye and shoot with your dominant hand. After a while your eye dominance will start to change as your non-dominant eye gets stronger.

I've recently (after 25 years of shooting) switched to my dominant eye. It took a little bit of effort, but I'm a better shot now.

The key to learning to shoot from your dominant hand is to stop shooting with it. After just a little practice, the hardest part is remembering which hand to place the firearm in.

I'm left eye dominant and right handed. I've always simply shot with my dominant hand (I'm very right handed). I usually close my left eye (not idea, I know) to get things to line up--I might just try the patch suggestion to help right take over dominance. This is preferable since most guns are made for right-handers anyway.
