Would sellers mind not deleting the price when a sale is made?

I have a favor to ask sellers in the private firearms section. Would you be willing to leave the price once a sale is made? Ideally it would be nice to see what it actually sold for posted, but I know that is asking a bit much.

But, if you could simply leave the price and put SPF in bold next to it that would be great. It's informative to see the price of sold items and helps others keep track of market rate.

    Thanks.

I would like to see the price left up there as well. It's a good indication of market price so people in the future can have a better idea of what to list their items for.

Just because there is an asking price and the item sold, it doesn't mean the buyer didn't take less for it. So the price posted is not always an indication of market value.

In one case I know of, there was some ammo posted a while back that the seller actually took 30% less (at market price) when it sold vs his very high asking price that was posted on the ad.

worse are the posts that the seller, replaces the whole post with "delete" and ask for the sale post to be deleted, as far as I know we dont delete posts, this is not craigslist, its a discussion forum

I would like to see the sale price stick to the post as well. AR15 (shudder) doe this and I like the idea. Sure some prices are going to be wrong, but it gives everyone an idea of what something sells for.

Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh I hate looking at a cool piece and then it has been edited to say "$SPF".

I love seeing how much things are going for. Put the "SPF" after the price or something, no? Too much to ask?

It is one of my big pet peeves. Why the hell do you people go out of their way to delete the price or the entire post in some cases. Mindboggling. I think people should get an infraction point if they wipe out their add or edit it after it sold other than marking it "SPF" conspicuously in the ad.

i thought about this, but if they wanna be private about it, what htey sold, when, possibly who bought it for how much, i can't compell them to do otherwise.

They posted on a public forum, that doesn't even require you to be a member to view, with enough information for someone to be interested enough and with a price that said person was willing to negotiate or flat out accept it; the seller has no quams about being non-'private'.

The buyer one the other hand either posted with enough information to let the seller know they were interested or would flat out take it; or they sent a PM to be discreet about it. Either way, the seller does not effect their personal choice by not modifying their original post.

Leaving the price after the item is sold may not give a true market value, since it may have changed or been traded for an inconsistant value, but it helps people estimate what other people VALUE their items at. How often do topic on this forum alone come around asking what X is worth? Now think of how many people went looking through the For Sale section WITHOUT making a topic. What about people that aren't members, found the particular Calguns thread while trying to do research on their firearm only to find the most pertinant information that they can use, market value, being removed.

Deleting the price, striking through the price, adding SPF/GONE, etc all do the same thing - let the reader know the item is no available - but still gives the community, which after all this IS a community site made FOR the community, additional information that can be usefull later on.

No one is saying we should put "Item A was sold to person B, whose Calguns handle is C, at location D on the date of E at time F for price G." I think everyone just wants to be able to use the For Sale section as a resource for price gauging, as it requires NO effort on the sellers behalf it doesn't seem like a bad idea.

                      I'm all for it.

Arfcom requires non-deletion of price and other details to help resolve issues if problems come up with the seller or buyer. It doesn't happen a lot, but it does happen sometimes.

I agree, it's important to leave the data there for future reference. That's part of what the site is all about.

I agree with leaving the prices up.
Many a times I'll do a search to see what a certain firearm or accessory is going for, but get stumped by the deletion of the price.

I agree as well. Its kinda annoying when trying to price check something and all I get are a bunch or SPFs. The sale forum would be a better resource for people in the market if prices stayed up!

I leave my prices up for things I've sold though I have thought about making it private.

I do sometimes delete gun-related items if my thread is too congested.
