    LA Riots in Koreatown.

I came across this "lost" video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKTw-UHalZc

Was the Korean store owner being justified?

    Intense video.

Under the right circumstances they have a right to protect their property. Based ONLY on what the video shows, there was no physical threat observed.

It sorta made me think about a zombie movie when I watched it.

I wouldn't presume to know what's going on outside the cameras field of view.

Anyone know if any of these store owners were arrested, tried, or convicted?

I was there and came on scene a little after the shoot out started. I was told to go check out what all the shooting was about. Ran up did a quick peek around a corner and saw 2 males, one shooting down the street the other shooting up the street. I informed the PD guys I was working with and they asked what they were shooting at. I said nothing, there was noone on that street at that time. They said lets go and we left them alone. I do know that no businesses on the street got burned down. while I was there so they did something right.

Probably a bunch of warning shots, some looked aimed.

Someone brought up an interesting point... during the Riots, citizens were waiting for help. So would taking the law into your own hands be a temporary solution, until help arrives?

But, yeah despite some vandalized property the place wasn't burned down.

I believe CA Penal Code Sec 837 covers that.

I think he is morally justified.

                        Legally, probably not.

yeah, doesn't look like he's trying to "arrest" anyone.

I guess it depends on your idea of "reasonable and necessary"

But joking aside, and answering the question I quoted, I believe that that is the proper way to "take the law into your own hands" when assistance from police is limited or unavailable.

All I know is if I had to protect my property, I'd take better coverage rather than stand out in the open like that. They were sitting ducks shooting aimlessly at times.
A guy told me one time "don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat from around the corner"
