Best Place to camp and shoot

Alright. I finally got some time off and looking to go camping and shooting. I wanna shoot tin cans, cinder blocks, and watermelons Hickok45 style inside or outside of California. I'm in northern california and don't wanna drive more than 6 hours. Any recommendations? Thanks!!

    Where is your favorite place?

Cow mountain seems to be a pretty popular spot. I'm planning a trip up there with some friends pretty soon.

Union Valley reservoir in El Dorado National Forrest. I'm literally there now. Leave the campsite, cruise down the road and find a trail. Go down the trails til you find a suitable backstop and let loose. Put about 1K rounds downrange between 6 people. A few .45's, a .40, a .22, a couple 12g shotguns and an AK.
As the great warrior poet Ice Cube once said "If the day does not require an AK, it is good."

Search your local BLM lands, you can always give them a call. Camping/Fire Permit=5$.

My friends and I can't stand local ranges. We always make the extra hour drive to our shooting spot up in Los Padres mountains. Our backdrop is very similar to Hickok45. It's like heaven.

Can't wait until fire season is over. I have tons of Co2 Tanks to plink at! Reactive, they last a long time and most importantly easy to clean up.

Thanks for your suggestions. Tasty, this is exactly what I'm looking for. I like the looks of Sunset campground. But I'm wondering if one campground might be more friendlier than others, in terms of shooting.

Do you recommend any particular campground around Union Valley reservoir or are they all same? Is it safe to assume anywhere in El Dorado National Forrest it's OK to shoot as long as the 150 yard rule is applied and a suitable backstop is used?
