    Walking Dead Season1 Episode1 2010

I am watching this on the AMC channel and about the part where all the police setup a road block, the chief sheriff says to one of his deputies, "... pay attention and make sure there is a round loaded in the chamber and to take off the safety."

The camera then pans over to show the deputy checking to see if there is a round in the chamber... which there wasn't! Which started me laughing in the first place.

BUT, what was even more hilarious is to see him thumb the slide stop lever(the slide was already forward at this time), so this was obviously to simulate the action of him working some external safety on his G17 or G22, can't tell which model and then the most hilarious part.. the sound guys inserted a loud CLICK!
so we the viewing audience would know that he took that external safety and disengaged it!

Has anyone else seen this? Or is watching this right now?

    Gotta love hollywood and guns.

    Too Phunny.

There are tons of inserted sounds in most shows/movies.

"I know how the safety works" was a reference to a first season episode in which Andrea points her S&W semi-auto pistol at Rick... with the safety on.

The brass pinging on the floor had me laughing, though. Almost as funny as a suppressor on a revolver.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

G17s and G22s can have slide safeties on them. Its a factory option.

The Glock 17S is a variant with an external, frame-mounted, manual safety. Small numbers of this variant were made for the Tasmanian, Israeli, Pakistani and perhaps several South American security forces. They are stamped "17", not "17S". They resemble, but are distinguishable from, standard Glock 17 pistols that have been fitted with the after-market Cominolli safety.

The writers of the TV series and the comic books do not know firearms.

They just do what they think is correct.

They only made them as Gen 2. They have not made them since. (see below for Gen 3 manual safety prototype)

                    Cominolli Manual Safety Kit

Prototype factory manual safety for Gen 3 Glocks that never went into production.

                      I didn't see that.
But I did see more than once at the end of "Night of the Living Dead" when the sheriff says to one of his men, 'there, in the window, right between the eyes'.
                      Bang!
"Ok, there's another one for the fire."

When cops surround a suspect, why is there so much gun cocking happening?

I'm always shocked when anything hollywood puts out is gun accurate. I also hate guns with safeties. Your finger and your brain are the safety, no lever will make you safe with a gun. I love Walking Dead though.
