transportation question - need answer ASAP

I wanted to take my SKS to the gun show at the Cow Palace tomorrow to see if I could sell it to someone waiting in line but when I got home tonight I realized that I don't have a lock for it.

If I remove the bolt am I then able to legally transport it?
    Thanks,
    Marc

    No.

For transport, you don't need anything, unless you drive through school zones, and then FedLaw requires it be locked; in the trunk of your car covers that.

But walking across the parking lot at the CP is 'in public' and 'in an incorporated area', so it must be cased; if the case is not a purpose-designed 'gun case' (like a duffel bag or guitar case') then it must also be locked.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Thanks, but since my car is a Corvette and doesn't have a trunk (and with all the lefty lunacy going on) I don't want to take any chances. I'll go get a lock.
      Thanks,

I hope you mean a lock for a case - a lock, on its own, has no legal significance for transporting a gun in CA.

I should have been more clear. I'm going to put a trigger lock on it, then lock it in the case. Last thing I need right now is to get wrongfully arrested and have to deal with that.

As librarian said, trigger locks mean nothing as far as transport laws. No requirement to do so, and it doesn't help you at all.

Long guns are only required to be unloaded in a vehicle... unless traveling thru school zones...

and on a side note..I thought I read something about C&R long guns not being included in the new open carry restrictions..

Yes, but you need to consider where the OP said he's going, that being the Cow Palace. There's at least 1 elementary school 2 blocks away from the place, with it's GFSZ overlapping the surrounding streets east of the cow palace, and another further up Gevena a couple blocks into a neighborhood that also has it's GFSZ overlapping the area, and another one south a couple blocks off of Bayshore that possibly intersects that road as well.

Try driving through any of the neighborhoods surrounding the cow palace and you won't be able to go 2000' without running into another GFSZ.

If you're at the local BFE county fairground in the middle of nowhere, you might be able to avoid GFSZ. South SF area? LOL, not gonna happen.

edit: Here's a map of SF(also out of date, might even be worse now) showing why the GFSZ is a pain in the *** in urban areas http://www.sf-planning.org/index.aspx?page=2337 (don't use it to judge the GFSZ around the cow palace, those schools aren't on that map).

Is it 50+ years old? If it's not, you can't legally sell it to someone in line without going through an FFL.

That said, how much are you asking for it?

I tried to stand ant the gate with a sign and was told to either buy a spot inside or leave - so I left.

The SKS is listed here: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=752160 for $1000 with 1037 rounds of ammo. It's in great shape but honestly, I can't see the sights because of my glasses and don't want to spend $$ on optics, etc. I'd rather sell it and use the $$ to finish up a few little projects on my Corvette.

You're asking over 2x the worth for that rifle and ammo. 1000 rounds of surplus is about $250, Yugo SKS' are worth about the same.

As I said, I'm posting it for what I paid. The Wolf ammo I have is currently available (or was a couple of days ago at $9.75/box of 20 plus shipping which is $477.75 plus the one box of Tula and the brass American Eagle as well puts it easily over $500 worth of ammo. The SKS is in great condition and it's not a 59/66 so it's not the commonly available model Yugo. If it wasn't fired before I got it it had a very low round count through it. The bolt and firing pin are perfect, no rust, no sticking, no slam fires. I paid $500 for it plus shipping, and DROS, so I don't think that asking $1000 for everything is out of line.
                        Thanks,

... and the Calguns way to object to pricing is not to buy.

Arm's-length transactions, willing buyers, willing sellers -- it all settles out.

You might want to check the SKS prices at http://jgsales.com as they have C & R eligible SKS for much less.
