Where to shoot stuff into bits Central California

    Hi,

    New to the forums,

Here is the question but let me preface it somewhat.

I live in the Central Valley of California the surrounding towns are Modesto/Turlock/Tracy/Manteca area. For the past few decades I have not been in the position to use my firearms. However, now circumstances have changed and I want to get back into doing this.
There used to be a semi-private area to do this until some bad apples started shooting the ranchers cows now it is fenced and gone.

I am older and I grew up in a different era. Target shooting has its place for example, for personal best or competition, but it is not really fun in the sense of just shooting stuff up.

I am used to shooting gallon milk containers filled with something/cans/various objects in a private setting.

When I was a young lady we went out back of the house and blasted stuff up.

Is there anywhere around that i could go just blast stuff and have fun doing that or are those days over?

Lot's of National Forest in the area. There are also some shooting clubs in the area you might consider joining, they are limited to paper targets.

Where ever you decide to go, make sure to clean up after you are done. Don't get me wrong, shooting stuff up is fun, but no one ever clean up after they are done. Most places I know end up looking like a trash dump.

That, and with all the trash left behind, the local rangers shut down the area so it can no longer be used as a shooting range.

I suggest buying steel targets for rifles, I tend to shoot pineapples and cantaloupes and paper targets sometimes bottles filled with jello, but I always clean up after myself.

Brass, shells, bottles, left over fruit, the animals get sick from eating it,* paper etc

Again, with the bad apples(or inconsiderate people), I long for the day that I lived on a ranch and had my own private shooting range.
And back in the 50s-60s we used to go to the dump and shoot TV's and other non-pc or hazardous items, thats was always, fun or the section with old cars and shoot those.

I shall make inquiries into BLM and or National Forest through the proper channels.
Any other ideas please let me know.
