The Gun Genie game

I'm on GOG daily looking at new arrivals, I find it funny the difference in prices in my 25 mile area. I don't know how it works on the retail end but I can't see any reason to be a GoG retailer and sell guns at over msrp. When they can look and see someone down the road has it for 100-150 less.

So play along. Post the lowest price and the highest price in your area, let's use the Rock Island M1911-A1 FS tactical in 45, they have 99+ in stock.

For me the low is OTD @ $523

And the high is OTD @ $722

I think its more interesting how retailers use GOG. FYI, GOG purchases don't come out of dealer inventory, they are shipped to the participating retailers when you buy them.

So look at the "More Information" for dealers.
if puchasing handguns, please make sure it is on Ca approved list,if you order a gun with a high capacity magazine and you are not a peace officer, you will not receive any magazines and we will not swap them out

We are a store front with normal business hours, no appointment needed, just walk in during normal business hours. Some prices on gun genie are higher and some are lower than what we actually have them in our store for. Come on in and see what we actually have on hand.
ie, Thanks for the Mags!

This is a retail quote! If you are serious, please stop by the store and we will make you a better deal!
ie, we would rather sell you something from our inventory

Not sure what the beef OP has with Davidson's, but ...

Davidson's is a retailer/distributor who has to sell their stock via your chosen FFL. The price difference is a combination of the agreement between Davidson's and the FFL.

If you can find the same item for less down the street, then go buy it. What's the problem? Nobody is forcing you to buy from Davidson's.

You may wan't to re-read that.

I have no beef with Davidson's, like I said I am on there website almost every day,

Never said there was a problem.

Never said I was forced to use Davidson's

I was asking people to post the high/low price for there area.

Davidson's is a great, I am not aware of another service that lets a retailer turn a profit on something they don't have to order or keep in there inventory and sends them new customers.

I do however find it strange FFL's chose to charge over 100 bucks more than another FFL in the same area for the same gun knowing potential customers can see the cheaper price when they go to order. But no beef with them.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

The key with Davidson's/GOG is that it serves as a warehouse and promotional materials for many FFL dealers. I think it probably most benefits the "kitchen table" dealers who are not paying for a brick-and-mortar store, nor for inventory carrying costs. They can definitely sell for a lower OTD price than the same gun bought by your normal LGS through Davidson's. So that probably explains the biggest differences in the OTD prices you are seeing.

Then there are those kitchen table FFL's who want to make a bunch of money, and those who are satisfied making a bit less on each gun. Hence the rest of the differential - Standard free-market economics, supply and demand (how many local gun dealers there are) and what level of profit the dealers need or want.

I'm really happy with my kitchen table FFL - His prices are a bit higher then some, but he has NO additional fees (other then sales tax - can't get out of that). Even his DROS charge is buried in his base price. Even though that base is not as low as some, his OTD is normally the best. And I live 3 minutes from his house!

Now, if you really want to have some fun, expand the radius out to, say 150 miles, or put in the zip of a major metropolitan city in a state like AZ, ID or WY. Then you might see some real major price differences.

                    Oh, and $553 - $659.

I've used the Gun Genie for 3 rifles so far. I was actually pleased with not having to drive or call around for what I was looking for. I'll buy from them again when I find the next rifle I'm looking for.

I like Gog. I find they have the lowest price on most gun not on sale around my area. They also good for buying guns that you can't find around you. I have used them for 3 guns and would use them again if I can't find the gun local to me.

The breakdown of fees and taxes from city to city lets you choose where to spend your money.

I have had a LGS refuse to match prices and seem surprised when my order showed up at the price I wanted in the first place.
