    Non-resident CCW Arizona

Very simple question. Can a non-resident of AZ conceal carry while visiting, without a permit. Or is the no permit law applicable only to residents. I have read contrary things on old threads. Anyone with relevant cites would be helpful.

I am heading there tomorrow for a job interview.

As soon as you cross the border it's legal for any non prohibited person to CCW in Arizona. Be sure to obey the other laws, such as no CCW in bars or where prohibited by signs.

It's a free state you can carry everywhere but in a bar (unless you have a permit, than the bar is OK). The state is free to all people.

        What he said.

It is legal to conceal carry or open carry. No permit is required.

However, since you do not have a valid permit, you can not legally carry in an establishment that sells alcohol for consumption (bars/restaurants) or in places that have a "no weapons" sign posted at the entrance.

In addition, if an AZ LEO asks if you are carrying, you must tell them.

The above is bad info in several ways.

OP, Google AZ carry laws and do your own research on the laws.

How is the info bad (other than obviously there being more restricted places. The law about schools is actually more restrictive than CA, e.g.). Assuming I am not in a school zone nor in a place that serves alcohol nor violating a non guns policy of a private establishment, is the answer still yes, I can carry? Oh, and I note the azdps.gov site is wrong about National Parks.

Wikipedia says yes, about.com says no. And different firearm sites say other things. The Arizona government website doesn't make it clear to me.

              Just remembered...
You can not carry on an Indian Reservation in AZ.

AFAIK, i regards to national parks...
If you have a permit = yes, you can carry.
If you do not have a permit = no, you can not carry.

That link is pretty much entirely devoted to answering permit questions. Not much at all on non-resident no permit carry.

For AZ state law refer to AZ state law sites. For Fed law refer to Fed sites.

Can't carry on reservation unless given consent.
Can't carry in GFSZ even with AZ permit unless AZ resident. (Carefully read GFSZ law regarding permit holders.)
Can't carry in ANY BARS WITH OR WITHOUT PERMIT.
Can't carry in any Fed, state, local government building unless exempted. Think town hall, libraries, DMV, etc.

Please note that I gave that as a start. It was not even close to being the end. Reading and understanding ARS and FED CFR would be the wisest thing to do.

I was intentionally vague in my post. I do not give advise on how to carry, when, and where. It is up to the individual to figure that out. There are many other places off limits but if I skip one like nuclear power plants and the OP has a job interview at Palo Verde I would feel pretty lousy that I ASSumed he would not be in Palo Verde to begin with so I did not include it.

I will make a public statement when wrong info is given. I consider that the minimum moral obligation I have as an AZ resident to someone that wants to visit AZ.

Now the above is all pretty much the letter of the law. Does that really matter though? Will a FED agent be in a GFSZ doing random searches on people? I doubt it and an AZ LEO won't even care unless the OP was doing something much worse in the first place. GFSZ is meant more as an add-on felony after being caught doing something illegal.

Same thing with private establishments that prohibit guns but are not covered under ARS. I carry at my local theater all the time. A few weeks ago the manager spotted my gun printing (it was horribly obvious as I usually open carry and just cover up with a tshirt when in "off-limit" places) and simply asked me to put the gun in my car. I said ok and put it in the car. He did not even check me when I came back inside. The next time I went I had a much smaller gun in my pocket so there was no printing.

If the OP is carrying for the first time he will stand out. He will be patting himself down all the time checking if his gun is still there or showing. He will have so many different "tells" there are too many to list. I still find it amusing to see first time carriers. It reminds me of how sloppy and nervous I was.

I think that is good advice. I haven't changed my habits since buying a place in Arizona. I don't normally carry but it is nice to know you can throw a gun in your car/motorcycle and not get hassled if stopped.
I'm wont be comfortable with concealed carry on my person until I take the CCW class so I can get the latest legal information. The biggest difference is more about law enforcement attitude about being armed than the petty infractions/felonies we are subject to in California.

                            That is wrong.

With a permit (only) one may carry concealed in an establishment (bar or restaurant) which serves alcohol by the drink, unless it has a specific form of sign posted and as long as he doesn't consume alcohol.

Here's the actual law ARS 4-244 (emphasis added) --
                            It is unlawful:
                            .....

                            29. For any person other than a peace officer or a member of a sheriff's volunteer posse while on duty who has received firearms training that is approved by the Arizona peace officer standards and training board, the licensee or an employee of the licensee acting with the permission of the licensee to be in possession of a firearm while on the licensed premises of an on-sale retailer. This paragraph shall not be construed to include a situation in which a person is on licensed premises for a limited time in order to seek emergency aid and such person does not buy, receive, consume or possess spirituous liquor. This paragraph shall not apply to:
                            (a) Hotel or motel guest room accommodations.

                            (b) The exhibition or display of a firearm in conjunction with a meeting, show, class or similar event.

                            (c) A person with a permit issued pursuant to section 13-3112 who carries a concealed handgun on the licensed premises of any on-sale retailer that has not posted a notice pursuant to section 4-229.

                            30. For a licensee or employee to knowingly permit a person in possession of a firearm other than a peace officer or a member of a sheriff's volunteer posse while on duty who has received firearms training that is approved by the Arizona peace officer standards and training board, the licensee or an employee of the licensee acting with the permission of the licensee to remain on the licensed premises or to serve, sell or furnish spirituous liquor to a person in possession of a firearm while on the licensed premises of an on-sale retailer. It shall be a defense to action under this paragraph if the licensee or employee requested assistance of a peace officer to remove such person. This paragraph shall not apply to:
                            (a) Hotel or motel guest room accommodations.

                            (b) The exhibition or display of a firearm in conjunction with a meeting, show, class or similar event.

Your are right. Only problem is trying to find a bar that does not have that sign. Good luck with that one.

The big difference with my info is that it is more strict than the law. I may be wrong but the OP would never have a chance to get in trouble with my info vs. the lousy info several others posted.

Which brings us back to my last post, it is up to the individual to figure out the laws and why I do not give advice on AZ CCW.
