    Has this happened to you.

Woke up this morning early, to go pic up my new SW 500 4 inch barrel, 10 day waiting period done. Only to get to the gun shop wait 20 minutes to find that they could not locate my cannon, or the paper work hmmm how many guns do they have in the back i wondered, how hard could it be, let me go back there i bet i could find it i thought.
Can you come back tommorrow was the answer i got. Ok so the gun store is 2 minutes away walking, and the owner knows me now, but what if i had decided to take the day of work to go try her out at the range.

well i just thought they would be better prepared, i guess i can wait one more day. Darn it.

Maybe someone is testing it out before you do. And that someone hasn't come back from testing session.

I would have waited. I mean, like you said, how long would it take to locate your gun.

I welcome it. How else would I learn.

It only has happened to me once when I bought my SOCOM II, after the 10 day period, I took that day off because I wanted to spend the day with my new toy at the range. The guy at Discount Gun Mart told me that they could not find it. I told him that I would be back in 1 hour because I was going to go eat lunch. I came back and they still could not find it. I got really pissed off and I told them to call the guy that did the DROS to see where he had placed it, they call the guy and sure enough, the gun appears. But they wanted me to come back to pick it up the next day.

Yes. Just stood there and stared at the guy until he was able to locate it, after about 15min of searching and numerous calls to his boss. They also lost my original DROS papers, luckily I had a copy. I guess it turned out ok, but I kind of try to avoid that place now.

If they tell you to come back the next day, something is not quite right about that.

            Hehe.
A long time ago I DROSed a Tikka T3 Tac at my friend's place. When I came to pick it up they had taken the muzzle break off to play with and somewhat abashedly asked me if I would give them permission to look at it. Considering that it was already in two pieces in my hands in front of me, it was kinda post-facto.

We're cool, so I didn't mind, but i'm sure many FFLs play with people's toys when they come in.

Back when Wally World sold guns I bought a rifle from them, paid up front, and they said they would have it transfered from another store. Since they had the SN they started the DROS and said see ya in 10 days. I returned, and NO GUN. They couldn't find it anywhere. Of course I spoke to the manager, and he told me I could pick any gun they had on hand and I'd not have to pay for another DROS. They even threw in a couple boxes of ammo and a case!

Of course that was quite a few years ago, and probably one of the reasons they stopped selling guns. It seems they got "lost" quite often.

Never had an FFL misplace my gun. However, when I did a PPT for a non-listed handgun, apparently the youngins that worked there kept on playing with it and had the nerve to admit to it. "So you're the guy that bought this. Man, your lucky. We couldn't believe it was a fifty. We had to stick our fingers in the barrel to make sure. It's pretty heavy and we all had a hard time locking the slide back." WTF!!!

Ok GI JOE. now your scaring me, i just did a PPT on a anaconda and jokingly the sales guy said we should have some fun at the range with this, i know he was joking but it makes you think, or become paranoid, i had a padlock for the case but decided against locking it, hell i dont even want them handleing it. he said dont worry we dont do that but he knows people who do.
Seroiusly they couldnt realy go and try your gun out surely there is a law that stops them from doing this?

Someone was telling me that a similar event happened to them, except it happened at the end of the week and the paritcular store was closed weekends so they wanted him to come back the following week. The person said they calmly asked for a piece of paper and a pen. The store employee complied and he asked for the employee's name and wrote it down. He then asked for the bosses name and wrote it down. He asked another question which I forget (maybe FFL license number or something) and the employee asked why he needed that information. He calmly explained that he wanted all his information right for when he filed a stolen firearm report with the sheriff (ETA: don't get things mixed up; California may require the gun to stay there for 10 days, but once you pay for it and DROS it, the governement says it's yours and they can't keep it from you without legal reason).

15 minutes later he was walking out of the store with his gun.

I've been in stores where they told me to come back later because they didn't want to bother with starting a DROS so close to closing, when there was over an hour and a half left in their opperating hours and I had taken off early from work just to make their store hours. I've heard of stories of employees eating their lunch at the counter and just watching people in their store, not responding to questions, until the clock hit the next complete half hour. There are some people who just HATE their job, or are lazy, or just flat don't care; and they exist in the gun world too. Sometimes they just need to be softly motivated to make them do their job properly.

Heck I buy a lot of guns so this has happend to me 3x in last year. One misplaced a revolver, took them 20mins or so to find it. I hate one of the employees at this store but the rest are so nice, one seems like he wants to adopt me!

Therefore I was cool about it and just browsed and waited for my dad to conduct some other business at the shop, no biggie.

Ades lost a pistol I DROSes last year, I had to come back next day on WED when he is normally closed. I was cool about it but kinda pissed as I live about 15-18 miles from him one way. And he apologised but made no other kind of compensation, Ade is cool so I let it go.

Turners lost my RIFLE, it was a bullpup though. I was there almost 1 1/2 hours. All I got was a 50rd box of .22lr I jokingly asked for. I felt a little better as I overheard them saying one of the managers sold the rifle to me for the exact same price they had in it by accident

Sometimes if I buy something and DROS it, I'll take it apart and DROS as frame only.

Kind of hard to play with the frame.

I don't bother if I know or trust the folks at that particular shop. I miss doing DROS's at the Burbank firing line

I would not DROS anything there ever again if this happened to me.
