    Shooter used 80% Lower

The talking heads just stated that the Santa Monica killer used an AR15 with an 80% lower.

Now the media will have a new thing to cry about "untraceable" "anyone can make one with a drill press" "OMG think of the children!"
"In Zawahri's bedroom, investigators found a drill press among other materials that indicate he likely assembled the weapon.

The drill press is used to help finish building the rifle by drilling holes in the lower receiver. A lower receiver that is only 80 percent complete can easily be purchased, and because it is not complete, a person isn't required to go through a background check, nor does the part need to have a serial number."

Someone with firearms knowledge talked to the morons.

Not sure how many days it will take for a legislator to cry fowl.

Feb 18th was the last day of the session they can introduce a bill. So we should be good until the next legislative session.

If a measure passes through both houses and signed by the Governor, it will become Chaptered after the Secretary of State signs it.
The law goes into effect January 1st unless there is an urgency clause, in which case it goes into effect immediately.

There's no stopping an 80%. We all know that they are not a firearm per BATFE. But they can try and ban manufacture, importation of parts.

Looks like the bad guys gained a few IQ points.

They also said he has suffered mental problems in the past. Kind of a trend.

Yeah, it seems that the common denominator here is mental problems and psychotropic drug use.

DiFi will offer legislation to "close the 80% receiver loophole" next year. They will start by calling them zip guns.

It's impossible to win the argument that an 80% lower is not a zip gun, since an 80% lower is designed to be a firearm, its just not finished enough to qualify. The fact a 10 year old can buy one while you need to be 18 to buy rolling papers or a cigarette light will seal the deal.

The only saving grace to stop the "zip gun ruling" is that to be classified a zip gun you must have had to neglect paying taxes on it. As a private person you are exempt from paying taxes on a home built firearm. Since you are exempt from taxes, the firearm can't be legally classified as a zip gun.

an 80% cant be a zipgun because it is not a firearm since it cannot fire a shot

Clearly we need to ban and confiscate all metal along with all machining equipment. Does anyone need an assault drill press or Military style lathe?

(disclaimer: this post was 100% sarcasm).

I was kind of shocked it *wasn't* on this year's list, since it was a "news item" already. Also, people really, really talked about it a lot, even last year.

I figure they'll overreach and ban manufacture of any gun part except by a licensed manufacturer.

There are already several threads on the weapon used.
