Car broken into some paper work taken

Hi just wondering, I just got my SUV window broken and they took a backpack I had in there. After thinking about it I believe I have my paper work for my guns that I carry around when I go shooting. I'm thinking about reporting it to my local PEs, go up to the station.

Any Ideas? Or should I even worry about it. I called the Oakland PD and they said someone will call me within a few weeks. I like WTF.

Anyways any opinions as to how I should follow up with this.

Relocate all your valuables somewhere else for the next two months, and make preparations for uninvited company in the near future.

I wouldn't worry about it other than losing the paperwork. When you leave a backpack in a car the creeps are looking for drugs/phones/wallets. They don't want your paperwork.

Yea but should I report it to the police? Just wondering what they would say.
I was going to head over to the PD to show then my paper work and stuff. Didn't really want to be pointing myself out as the guy with the guns in my area (eastbay)

Well I try to bring it up to the PD and they don't seem to care. Guess I'll just have to wait and see if I get some new guest.

So I was wondering, if your uninvited guest get shot half way into your house does that count as being in your house, or do I have to make sure they drop inside?

This was not a good week for me.

Most agencies have an on-line reporting system. I would do that for at least insurance purposes and in the event someone does break into your home. Its a good documentation method.

I have a serious question here... what kind of paperwork for your gun is required to go shooting? Thanks.

The only paperwork I would carry would be a copy of RAW registration or a copy of tax stamps for title II firearms.
No paperwork is required for 'traditional' (title I?) handguns, rifles or shotguns.

Yes, you should report the theft of property. However, I don't think they are going to actively look for pieces of paper with your name on it.

drag them all the way inside, then lay the bad guy on top of you, put a knife in BGs hand then stab yourself 3 times with said knife and you "might" be ok. unfortunantly

but for real, hopefully they just tossed everything when they figured out there was no money, drugs, cell phones etc. hope everything stays quiet at your place.

YOu have to make sure they are trying to harm you. If they come in to steal your TV, you will likely lose if you shoot him in CA.
There is no justification for the public servant police to be more heavily armed than the law-abiding public they serve...Unless...the government's intention is to be more powerful than the people.

Sorry about your misfortune. I highly doubt anyone is going to go through your paperwork. It was probably tossed with whatever else they didn't want. It doesn't matter where they are when you shoot them. It matters what kind of a threat were they posing. You will have a hard time explaining that you shot somebody on your front porch if they didn't have a weapon. You also can't or shouldn't shoot someone if they no longer pose a threat such as running away from you. The whole "gotta shoot them in your house" thing is a myth. It has more to do with the threat imposed.
