BB/Pellet Gun?

Fellow CalGunners,

Just for the hell of it, I am gonna buy a BB gun. I mean, why not? I was at the greatest store in the world, Walmart, and was looking at the classic lever-pump style Red Rider bb gun. Is there anything better? Or, should I just stick with the "old school" of the Red Rider.

Oh ya, I'm just gonna be using this thing to hit beer cans and what not.

A Red Rider won't even go through those beer cans. I once shot a bird with a Red Rider and it just flew away, probably laughing at me. Nothing wrong with a BB/pellet gun, just get a good one.

I've killed hundreds of birds growing up with my Red Ryder. It'll take care of beer cans too. Shop around and see if you can find an older RR though, I was going to buy my kid one and it had plastic furniture.

I'm surprised nobody has said it yet :

The Red Ryder is simply a classic (introduced in 1938), and is cool for nostalgia sake, and would also be a great little rifle to introduce young kids to shooting for the first time. It also sells for a great price.

Crosman pumpmasters are also great. Hold lots of BB's and can shoot pellets.

depends on what you're looking for, you just want to pop soda cans? sure get a red rider. you wanna blow through 2x4's and hear nothing but the pellet strike? get a moderated PCP air rifle

Lol I looked man. But I would have a hard time spending the more cash on a bb gun then I did on my .38 and the same amount as my .30-30.

lol - that's nothing , i paid almost 2k for my airforce condor fully tuned with barreld shroud, and about 2k for my FX Monsoon with the accessories.

it's all in what you want, a $99 bb gun or a pellet gun that is the equivalence of a silenced 22lr

Air guns are cool. I bought my Grandson a Red Ryder as Bass Pro in 'Vegas and he loves it. It shoots hard enough to knock over a can at 5 yards, but not hard enough to do much damage at 20 yards. The Red Ryder I got him is real wood, very few plastic parts. When he comes to visit he spends hours just plinking away for about .25 cents. He has transitioned to a .22LR Chipmunk so the Red Ryder will go to the next Grandson in line soon.

I've always owned a few high-powered air rifles and they are great fun. I currently have a Beeman .177 that will whack crows at 50 yards. It shoots well over 1000 fps and hits hard. I have a BSA 6X12 target scope on it, with mildots of course. (I know it's dumb, but it looks cool)

Sports Authority and B-5 usually have "adult" air rifles on sale. They are great fun, and unless you live in the bowels of the beast (Big Cities) you can usually shoot in your back yard. Accurate quality air rifles do provide practice on the basic rifle shooting techniques, such as sighting, trigger squeeze, breathing etc. Rather handy now that fuel costs prohibit recreational shooting trips.
