    Dry fire with shot timers

Hey, sorry if this is the wrong place for this but I am looking at shot timers. Have my eye on either the pact club timer 3 or the ced7000. One looks to be simple and the other a little more involved but both have what I'm looking for. Anybody know if either one of them can be tuned to be sensitive enough to pick up dry fire? Also they both have a delay feature, anybody know if the delay is adjustable? Thanks, any advice on the durability or other recommendations is participated.

If you have an iPhone you can download the Surefire shot timer for free… that’s what I use, and it works pretty well.

It has a sensitivity adjustment but I don’t think it would pick up a dry fire, with the sensitivity on 100% it does pickup a snap from my fingers.

All I have is an ipad. I had not looked into the apps they have but I will have to try some to see what features are useful. Thanks

iPhone, iTouch, iPad... it will work with any... it’s just a little difficult to run around following the shooter with a huge iPad lol.

At least you can test it and see if it will work for your needs.

Ya, that is why I had not bothered before, an ipad is not ideal for this. I went ahead and downloaded it to see what features might be useful.

I use a CED7000 for live fire practice at range, then Shot Timer PRO on my iPhone for airsoft at home since you can set it for both. However if you place it high and close Shot Timer PRO can pick up snaps since you are the one that defines by sound example the decibel read. It is not always right though as racking the slide sometime reads. As as as durability, I wish the CED was more rugged but once you wrap it in a skin it seems less vulnerable. I really like the CED and it is quite small.

Usually for dry fire you would use the par timer function. It adds a second beep at the duration of your choice, when you then try to beat. Once you can beat it reliably you bump the par time down a tenth of a second. The shottimer app does this nicely - that's what I use for dry fire and I have a CED7000 for live fire.

Think I'm going to go with the ced. I like how the pact timer has large buttons/ basic layout but I think some extra features will be nice to play with on the ced. Really I'm just looking for a reliable timer so as long as it works I will be happy. I downloaded the app on an ipad just to play with. It would pick up a dry fire every once and a while if I held it close to the mic. If you rack the slide quickly it pics it up every time so after playing with it the par timer will work better or good enough for dry fire, can't do multiple shots anyway. Thanks for the help.

That's only going to work with a revolver. Your automatic isn't going to recock itself after the first "shot". Or are you only looking for first shot times?

Now an airsoft gun might be a different story...
