Was I supposed to be charged sales tax on my HSC? Isn't the $25 a state fee? This doesn't seem right...

technically, the FFL does buy the blank cards for $15 from the state and then issues it to you when you pass the test. he is allowed to charge up to $10 for hs fee for a total of $25. is the transfer of the completed card a taxable sale, I dunno?Jack

Good to know. It was Parallax Tactical, definitely not a "shady" FFL. I'm sure it was just a simple error, so before the torches and pitchforks come out, I will stop by and let them know. Not really worried about the $2 and change, I just don't like giving the state more money to the state than I have to.Comment

Alamo charges sales tax on the $35 PPT fee. The weird thing is, it's either hit or miss with them on this since they've only done it when I'm the seller but not the buyer.
And no, Turners (which just happens to be down the street a half a block away) never charges for sales tax on PPT's when I've done them there. But I have had then charge me sales tax on the DROS fee with new firearm purchases lately, but only recently.
Back to the OP's question, I wasn't charge sales tax on my HSC card, but this was in 2013 and at a gun range if that matters. Damn, I have to renew or get another one soon now
