Why Chicago is so Violent.

If we consider these increasingly popular "drive-by shootings" endemic to the underclass, we see the instinct in full cry. Such shootings accomplish nothing at all except to relieve instinct pressure inherent in the species. For ages this pressure has been properly directed by civilized men into hunting channels. As hunting possibilities decrease with the urbanization of the world, the undirected and morally irresponsible youth turns naturally to killing people, for lack of a better plan. Without the family and without the church this phenomenon is not going to disappear. The State is not only a bad master, it is also inefficient.

Chicago isn't getting more violent.

in the 90's Chicago averaged 823 homicides per year, this decade they're averaging 459, which is real close to mirroring the national trend, not to mention homicides are down 34% so far this year and shootings down 28%.

You can go anywhere and find people who say things are worse off now than ever, that doesn't make it true.

Chicago doesn't even make the top 15 list of most violent cities in the country.

I have an anecdotal opinion that Chicago sucks. Everyone I've ever known that was from Chicago has been annoying. Chicago this, Chicago that, blah blah. If Chicago is so awesome, why are you here, and not there? Hence, Chicago sucks.

This is the right answer. Chicago is #16 for murder and #21 for overall violent crime. The top 5 have double-to-triple the murder rate of Chicago.

Chicago is filled with wicked people; that's why it's violent.

From after the Civil War until the 1950s people from the South had moved to Chicago looking for work. They crammed themselves in dirty and small tenements. Of course generations grew up poor and without any family structure. There is anonymity in the big city, places to hide. People can commit crimes and escape accountability. Fathers can leave their families without any community judgement. Before you know it these people are more like animals than humans.
