Im payin for a lot of stuff this year. Wedding, honeymoon, guns n ammo. Ive got my ar, my handgun, my bolt rifle, and a 10/22. Now i need a shotgun and an ar-308. I can only do about $600. So i can either get a mossberg 590 a1 or a complete 308 lower. I know the lowers will be either banned or hard to get next year, so if i get that will i still be able to get a good shotty next year, or are those under fire too? Thanks for any advice

Need advice: 308 or shotgun

If it's truly a "what is most likely to get benned first" scenario, it's probably far more likely that centerfire rifles will be attacked before shotguns, note there was already an AW ban cycle that had minimal affect on shotguns, those are going to be one of the last things they go after so it will appear that they are not banning everything.
My thinking would be get the rifle lower first.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOriginally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall. As far as shotguns go, you can get a very well made clone of the Ithaca Model 37 from Stevens (backed by Savage) for $230ish. That will save you some money that you can put towards your .308 lower.Last edited by Steve_In_29; 06-08-2013, 12:51 AM.Comment

I have both an AR-308 and a 590a1, so I am pretty blessed. However, I would choose the 308 in this case. Then later down the road get the shotgun.Bounce a ball in Football that's a fumble. Baseball, no bouncing at all. Bounce a ball in Hockey, well that's a mandatory drug test right there...Comment

As Citadelgrad87 said, get your AR .308 lower first. That's what they're going after right now with all the ban laws. I recommend the DPMS pattern over the AR-10.
Shotguns appear safe for the time being. But when you finally decide to buy one, I'd recommend looking at the Mossberg 930 SPX (non-pistol grip) as well. It fits your budget too. Pumps are great, but semi-auto's are much faster and recoil less. In addition, when the politicians eventually get around to shotgun bans, semi-auto's will be in their crosshairs long before pumps."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

+1, I sometimes wished I had gotten a 930 SPX over the A1.As Citadelgrad87 said, get your AR .308 lower first. That's what they're going after right now with all the ban laws. I recommend the DPMS pattern over the AR-10.

Can you explain the difference between dpms vs ar10. I was looking at a cmmg 308 lower. What is that considered? As Citadelgrad87 said, get your AR .308 lower first. That's what they're going after right now with all the ban laws. I recommend the DPMS pattern over the AR-10.

An excellent option in a semi-auto shotgun that will save 1/3rd the cost of the 930 ($600+) is the Escort MP-S/A ($400ish).....Shotguns appear safe for the time being. They are available in many models/finishes/barrel-lengths and I have both the MP-S/A 12G version as well as their youth model 20G for my wife. The Escort (Hatsan) is huge in the UK due to the Euro vs Pound exchange rate. Google them up and decide for yourself if you need to spend the extra money. The youth 20G is available in a cool looking pink/purple/black splatter paint job for the girly-girl shooter in your life.Comment
