I am sort of a neat freak and keep going in circles trying to keep things organized yet accessible, and wondering what most people do.
In the original box the gun came in? -- Sounds good in theory but most of the time the box is buried in the back of a closet somewhere and it's a pain to dig it out.
In the case you most often use to transport the gun? -- This seems to only work well if there is one case you always use for the gun. But I have a variety of cases I use depending on what guns I am taking out to the range on any given day so things inevitably move around.
In a dedicated range bag with other tools? -- This is what I've settled on for now. I keep all my essential tools, manuals, eyes/ears and some targets in the bag at all times and always take the bag to the range with me. Problem is it gets pretty bulky and I don't like always having to lug the whole thing. Especially as I've acquired more guns it's gotten increasingly cumbersome to try to keep everything consolidated in a single bag. At the very least I've thought of splitting into separate handgun and long gun bags....
Safe, filing cabinet, etc...? -- Haven't gone this route yet. I like the idea of having the manual with me at all times in case I need to reference it on an outing. I know I *should* have everything memorized for every gun I own, but the fact is I don't and there always ends up being some time I need to reference the manual for field stripping or sight adjustment when I least expect it.
I guess this doesn't just apply to manuals, but other knick-knacks like magazines, speedloaders, special sight-adjustment tools, spare parts and the like. Hoping to hear what systems work well for others.
