    How do I register this....

My grandfather left the country to go live his last days in our homeland. However, prior to leaving, he left me a handgun. The gun was given to him years ago from friend. The gun was registered to his friend and was given to him to cancel out a debt. My Grandfather never got it registered. Needless to say, I was just given this gun and now
would like to get it registered the legal way. Please tell me how I can do it. Remember my Grandfather (who is in another country now) gave/handed the gun down to me. .

    Thanks

Is it a really cool gun? I am just curious? Where is the homeland? This is your first post and it sounds kind of strange.

Fill out this form http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/oplaw.pdf and submit it with $19. Problem solved.

        Hey Hawk,

thanks for the help. Why does it sound strange? Yes, im new to this forum and IMHO, this is a great place for us folks here in CA. I have read and learned so much in reading all of the forums. Im pretty new to being a handgun owner. I just bought my first handgun back in January and im happy to say that im the proud owner of 3 now. (Shotty, .40cal, and 9mm compact) No big secrets here! Gramps went back to the Philippines and the gun he left me is a Ruger P89dc. No biggie, just sentimental I guess.
Well, again and thanks for your help.

A faily new slang term for a shotgun. Normally used by kids trying to act "cool" when refering to their airsoft guns. Sometimes the term is used by new, uneducated (about firearms) firearms owners that are trying to hard to act like they know what they are talikg about. Any time you see someone using this term, you can be assured that they are not experienced shooters.

I could be wrong, but I think since you got it from your grandfather, and it went down the bloodline, you don't need to register it. Someone correct me if that's not the case.

I will not take offense to your comments. Just using "slang" does not make me "uneducated" nor does it make me any less knowledgable on the subjects of handguns, responsibility, rights, and ultimately the joys of owning a firearm. Matter of fact, the plethora ("hella" WARNING: Slang word) of information on this platform is/was very helpful to me. I am a "Noooobie" to being a handgun owner but I have been around them since I was able to walk. I have been taught the right way to handle them and more so, I have relayed all I know of guns to my wife and son. I do however take to heart a response like this in that it makes us gun owners seem like an "elitist" group of people who frown on someone who is new or "not experienced" and even question why even get into the sport of shooting guns. Judging on the number of posts you have, I will not get into an argument of who knows more or heck which football team you root for. I will tell you that based on your and others responses to my query (question- sorry but this is the only slang equivilent I could think of) I will cease to consider even asking a question here. I will still enjoy some of the considerate posts and responses that people make. That you cant take away! However, as a responsible, EDUCATED, person, who is learning the joys of shooting and more importantly, the necessity of being able to defend my family and home, I will ask elsewhere.

Welcome to calguns doc66. Pay no mind to those that feel it necessary to belittle you by correcting your verbiage by what they consider to be right and wrong. Don't let their comments prevent you from asking your questions here. You will definately get your answers from some of the more considerate calgunners and your questions may help other noobs who would have asked, but were afraid of the backlash they might have received for not using the "correct" terminology. Enjoy the site for its wealth of info if nothing else.

Correct, using slang does not MAKE YOU IGNORANT, it just MAKES YOU LOOK IGNORANT.
                            Don't try to be cute.
Call a shotgun a shotgun and you won't get slang backlash.

How come this guy can't call a shotgun a "Shotty", but every AR15 enthusiast out there can call an AR-15 and AR, ARF, OLL, etc? What's the big deal? What about SHTF, MMG, BUIS, boomstick, etc? Gimmie a break! OP - use whatever terminology you want - don't be censored by elitists!
