Gunpowder..?

I decided to fiddle with my USPc45 today so I unloaded my magazines and I noticed black powder that fell around it. Gun powder was my first thought. Is this normal? Loaded ammunition was .45 ACP Federal HST 230 Gr. +P HP. I never thought that gun powder would be able to fall out like that. It wasn't alot of powder, just barely any, but still see-able. Just curious about this, is all. Is this normal with most ammo? Appreciate the info.

I would be inclined to believe your mystery powder is probably smutz of some sort. If its reloads, a round may have come apart from a bad crimp. (I imagine this could happen with factory ammo too but far less likely.) Check ALL of your rounds from that box/batch to be safe.

I have not seen this happen with 556 ever either. Maybe it's because of the big open tip hollow point? I was told this was factory new ammo when I bought this from a CalGunner ages ago. Have shot some of it a long time ago and all was well. It's not like powder is pouring out of it really, just small negligent traces, that I can smudge and make a small smear out of it. It definitely smells of it. Either way this has got me worried a little since you said ammo should not leak ever. Thank you.

Some unburned powder left in the action is somewhat normal after a shooting session.

I would assume this would be the case here as it was max loaded ammo.
