SoCal Target Shooting? Need somewhere for Memorial Day! HELP! :)

[voidunknown]

I'm looking for some public land where I can legally shoot near Bakersfield. I was planning to head out to Carrizo Plain tomorrow, but just found out it's only legal for hunting, not target practice. I've got a couple new rifles to sight in and wanted to take also the big boy .338 Lapua rifle out for some long range fun. So, somewhere with 1500+ yards would be ideal.

Is it true that you cannot target practice ANYWHERE near Carrizo Plain? Is there anywhere near Bakersfield to target shoot? I read that there is a good sized BLM area near Barstow, but I was hoping for something closer.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
