    buy ammo require thumb print?

When did buying gun ammo start to require a signature and a thumb print?

Some smaller gun store in Sacramento, River City Gun Exchange.

It's a Sacramento City Ordinance. Not something the stores do for fun.

It is also why none of the Walmarts inside "sacramento city" lines sell ammo.

I was in Sacramento for a PPT last year and decided to buy some ammo at the same place. They gave me a separate piece of paper and had me do the thumb print. The form looked like a City form only for Sac. I was told at the time only Sac and LA do that. Nowhere else. I guess Sac wanted to copy LA, due to the gangbangers and Sac wanted to get on the Save our Street from Criminals routine.

Big 5 does that also for the past few years.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

That is why I don't buy ammo in Sac. I have nothing to hide but I think it is far too invasive when they photocopy your ID, make you put your fingerprint on the same piece of paper, then sign it. Where does it go after that? That information is far too precious to just be floating around at an LGS.

One question, so how would they match the bullet from the crime scene with the bullets you bought?

Do these bullets that are sold in Sac/LA have special markets or is it just a stupid feel good law?

If your a convicted felon and tha print is scanned you get to go visit your buddies in the greybar hotel. Might give some homies second thoughts.

Yeah, I guess the penalties for murder, assault, rape, prostituting whores and dealing drugs weren't enough.

It's a good thing that thumb print put the fear of prison into these criminals. We need this law implemented state wide so that California can be as safe as L.A.

                      ^^^^ x2

As soon as they asked me for my ID and thumb print I would have told them to keep their ammo. I have nothing to hide and in fact hold a current DoD security clearance but that requirement is ridiculous.

Plodding along towards another tax when they pass the background check for ammo purchases... I recently purchased ammo at a Big 5 in sac county.. North sac to be specific and had no such requirement.

Who's going to scan them? I doubt anybody. No money.

They get some weapons convictions from this law. An enmployee at my lgs has been called to testify in court five times.
