    SOLD

Howdy all. I'm currently a non-resident of CA but for the next few months I'll be staying in CA for an extended work trip. I have some guns that I've been meaning to sell (just an old lever gun and maybe one of my Glocks) here in AZ, but the work trip is coming up fast and the guns haven't sold yet. I'm thinking I want to bring them with me to CA and try to find a buyer in-state.

I've done my due diligence and read the CGF Wiki, where I found out that a PPT must be between two residents. I also found out that this becomes a Federal issue because the firearms are being sold over state lines.

Obviously there is a mechanism in place that allows CA FFLs to receive a firearm from an out of state seller in order to transfer to an in-state buyer.

My question is: If I find a buyer while I'm inside of CA as a nonresident, can I use that mechanism instead of using the PPT mechanism in order to enact a sale? Or am I screwed because I'm not a CA resident?

By the way, I'll be spending most of my time in Orange County, so if any of you are FFLs that are located in the vicinity and willing/able to do this kind of transfer please let me know.

Oh, also: I do have my old California ID... The AZ DMV punched a hole in it so it's no longer valid, but I do have it and I could provide the last address I lived at. Not sure if this helps or not.

PPS: I would also like to do an intrafamilial xfer to my mom and give her one of my Glocks because she's expressed a desire to start keeping a gun around for home defense. She lives in CA too. I understand this is a Federal issue as well because it crosses state lines. Is there any way that we can legally do this xfer while I'm physically inside of CA?

Your barrier is only the business practices of the FFLs you choose to use for the transfers.

Call ahead; no legal requirement to ship FROM an FFL, walk-ins are legally fine - but some businesses don't like it.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Thanks Librarian. Come to think of it, would you be willing to move this to the FFL forum for me? Maybe it would help to get feedback from local FFLs.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

I believe OC Armory in Lake Forest will do out of state transfers for $75
Face to face or shipped in, it makes no difference. The same applies to your mom, but she needs a HSC, and you can give her off-roster pistols.
