    What clip is this???

    No, really - it's a clip.

While these are loaded with 5.56-NATO, 3 to a box, labeled for "AR" - does anyone know for what firearm these may be intended? Something foreign? Something specific to M4s?

Surely someone can answer as I bet plenty of people have bought this ammo from Federal. I've seen it advertised out there before but have never bought some (until today).

They load metal USGI AR mags with the help of a "stripper guide", sometimes called a "spoon."

It's vanilla American Eagle XM193 packaged on stripper clips. I suspect that AR on the package is marketing more than anything else, since they used to come in plain cardboard boxes.

Interesting. And I prefer metal mags too. 30 some years owning and being around ARs and you would have thought I would have come across these at least once?

        I'm so lame.

No, I knew what the ammo was; just couldn't figure out the clips. I assumed they might be for M16/M4 mags, but wasn't sure. Seriously, I've never come across them in some 30 years of owning ARs and gobs of "standard" Colt mags.

It's not just metal mags that you can use stripper clips with. How you've never come across these in 30 years... heck if I know. They're all over the place.

USGI spoons work great on some Pmags too

Seriously, you would think, right? I've surely seen them at gun shows too, and probably just grazed my eyes over them not paying much notice.

Also, I've owned a large quantity of "standard" 20 and 30 round capacity mags for so long (since at least the late 1980's), I haven't bought or replaced an AR Mag in all that time to notice. (Guilty; I don't own any PMags other than one or two 10/20s for AK-based firearms that came with recent purchases by way of PPTs - ).

I have always had mag-loaders for the AR mags as well, so likely I never made the connection if I saw them anyway, since ARs are not stipper-clip accessible from the upper (how I solely think of "clips" being used".)

                Connotation really, that's all.

The only time I've ever given attention to and bought "clips" for any gun have been specifically for when a gun uses a fixed-mag and a clip only for charging; by example, I have clips for Mauser C96s, Steyr-Hahns, FN-FAL/StG58s with open top/fixed CA mags, SKSs, en-Bloc for Garands, and other C&R stuff.

                Go figure.

Canadian 5.56mm is issued on plastic clips that can be used as fire starters after the ammunition is stripped into a magazine!

I don't think I've ever seen an AR Magazine you can't load using stripper clips. GI, PMAG, 100 round C-Mags. The list goes on.

Ah. I bought a Strip LULA for AR mags a while back to ease the loading of mags, and then went out of my way to buy several cases of AE on stripper clips. The only difference was that the ammo came in plain cardboard sleeves and at least a couple metal USGI-style guides. I'm sure you picked up on the fact that if you had 30 rd mags, each box would fill a mag perfectly

okay, perfectly if you don't down load your mags to 28.

They also work better than the USGI stripper clips.

Wish I could get more of them.
