Quick question that needs an answer about owning a gun.

Can a person who has a numerous amount of speeding tickets NOT own guns? Can a person with a previous DUI own one? If yes, How? If no, Why?....

Felonies are the bar to gun ownership and possession.

Traffic tickets are infractions and DUIs are usually misdemeanors. DUI with injury may be a felony.

Certain misdemeanors convictions, like domestic violence can preclude you from gun ownership. Being the subject of a restraining order (even a TRO) can also keep you from even possessing a firearm.

There could be a problem if your CDL is suspended because of the DUIs or if you have any outstanding warrants, since you need to show a valid ID. Getting a CA ID card would solve that problem.

I understand that a felony can restrict you, but wouldn't a DUI fall into the same category as "certain misdemeanor" list? not a big enough reason to say prelude a person to own a gun but just enough to restrict ownership... even if that DUI person did not cause death and injury but harm...

Actually no. I'm clean and can have ownership. I'm just curious with my buddy, because he got me thinking about his DUI and future gun ownership. Since there are so much bills and laws in the future that will be discussed.

Speeding tickets depends on the nature of the traffic violation. Not that I would know from experience...AHEM....but over a certain number speeding violations turn into reckless driving convictions. While 20 over may be clearly unsafe in most cases, a common racket I've seen in Illinois is for an otherwise unimpeded highway to be marked a "construction zone" with a 50 MPH limit. Fly through there at the normal 75 , and bam. Fines doubled.
