    Bring one or not?

    Driving to Texas tomorrow and will be spending a few days visiting, then driving back next week. Unfortunately I see things with Calivision as of late, so to be safe Im posing a question: Good idea to bring a firearm or should I leave it at home? Its sad this day and age that a question like this should even be brought up in the US. But alas, there it is.

    I would imagine that if I stick with the most stringent laws (CA of course), keeping the pistol unloaded and locked in my micorvault, I should be OK as I travel. My only concern are the fascist illegal DHS checkpoints.

    As long as you roll down the window, smile and be friendly to any check point personal, you'll be fine. This also includes any agricultural check points you may encounter.

    I travel frequently and always pack a lunch. Just read-up on the laws in each state...hell, just print up the laws and take em' along in a folder so you are covered in the event you do have contact by a LEO for some reason.

      In Texas you can conceal carry in your vehicle without a CCW permit. So feel free to take it out of the gunvault and load up once you enter Texas, just make sure the firearm is concealed and you are not breaking the law.

      (a-1) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun in a motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the person's control at any time in which:
      (1) the handgun is in plain view; or
      (2) the person is:
      (A) engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic or boating;
      (B) prohibited by law from possessing a firearm; or
      (C) a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01.
      Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison

      The Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms. -- Samuel Adams, Debates and Proceedings in the Convention of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 86-87 (Pearce and Hale, eds., Boston, 1850)

          Thanks for the responses. Decided to go ahead and bring it.... the whole thing of needing not having vs. having not needing comes to mind. Keeping it locked in the vault and unloaded Ill be fine from one state line to the next.

            It might be a good idea to google the gun laws of states you will be passing through. I am sure locked and unloaded in the trunk will suffice, but its up to you to do your due dilligence.

              Driving, yes, take one. I would say the opposite if you were flying though.
              There is no justification for the public servant police to be more heavily armed than the law-abiding public they serve...Unless...the government's intention is to be more powerful than the people.
