    10 day waiting period

We all know there is a ten day waiting period in california for firearms purchases.

My question is, can you get your gun on the TENTH day? Or do you actually have to wait ten days (ie pick it up on the 11th)?

I dros'd a firearm on monday the 5th, and want to see if i can pick it up thursday the 15th.

I have never really ran into this myself with past firearms purchases. I searched, but couldnt find this answer.

    Thanks guys

Legally, it's ten 24 hour periods starting from the exact time of the day you DROS.
If for example you did your DROS at noon on the 5th, you can pick up at 12:01pm on the 15th.

Yes you can pick it up on the 15th. Look at your paper work it will have the time your started the DROS, say you did this at 10:45 a.m. you can pick it up 10 days later at 10:46 a.m.(10 /24 hours later)

Or as I was typing, what 69Mach1 said.

You should be able to pick up on the 15th at or after the time on your DROS paperwork.

Unless the people in the store are too stupid to be trusted to read a clock (See Big 5). You would be picking it up on the 11th day

Some stores have a policy of making you wait 11 days. This avoids having to hassle someone who comes in early on 10th day and complains and wants to take the gun out early. It also avoids the risk of a dim employee letting the gun out early on the 10th day. Regardless, I don't like when stores have an "11 day" policy.

I too bought a new rifle on the 5th at exactly 11:20am. They told me that I can pick it up on the 15th after 11:20 am. I've been staring at the calendar every day since.

Big 5s seem to favor the 11 day waiting period.

A twist on this question would be when buying two handguns from a shop. You should be able to pick up the first one on the morning of the 30th day, and start the paperwork on the next one a few hours later.

This would convenient if the shop is out of your area and you want to save an extra trip. However if the dealer isn't knowlegeable or comfortable with this and wants an extra day as a safety margin, you're out of luck. Has anyone here ever done this?

Yes you can do it as it's 30/24 hour periods, but as you said, most are just comfortable waiting an extra day, just to make sure there is no confusion.

I personally wait the extra day, or as many will chime in here probably, buy used from someone as the 30 day rule does not apply to a PPT.

So for handguns there is a 30 day waiting period vs a 10 day waiting period for Rifles? Learned something new

No, you can only buy one handgun per month so it is a 10 day wait for the first and then 30 days for the next. This only applies to purchases from an FFL, if you are doing a PPT you can do as many as you want and each one has a 10 day wait and they can be run at the same time so that you can do multiple PPTs and pick them all up 10 days later. Make sense?

If you buy a new gun from an FFL you have to wait 10 days to pick it up, you then would have to wait 20(30 days - the 10 day wait) more days till you can purchase a new handgun, as the 30 days starts when you DROS the 1st handgun.

All guns have a 10 day wait, just there is a Law stating only 1 new handgun purchase every 30 days.
