A couple of things of note. First, this from NPR:

This is a case where, they may not have much ammo but what they have they sell at a NORMAL price! It's called loyalty. Now I have to say that I am not a big fan of Big 5. To me, I see them as a shoe store that happens to sell sporting goods. BUT..during this insanity, they sold ammo at their NORMAL rate! They didn't have a great deal to sell, but when they did, they did not over charge. For me..that says something! The question is, when the insanity is over, where will you be buying your ammo and guns?

This is their spring 2013 store tour. I am thinking that these guys are probably indicative of other gun stores throughout the U.S.. THEY are showing guns. Not all of the guns that they want, but they are showing that there IS movement and that some things are actually shipping. This is good. It shows that there is finally some movement in the marketplace.

So MAYBE..just MAYBE things are starting to relax. But...after being through all of this..*I* at least am going to keep a larger stash......

The other day I called Big 5 45 minutes before they opened. I asked about 22lr. The man said, "We got in 10 boxes..and I have 10 guys outside that already want it".

Well..the bad news is..I didn't get any.

The GOOD news is..that they got in TEN boxes! For the last few months, that has been like TWO boxes a month!

Maybe I am just being hopeful but these are good omens from the guns and ammo gods I think..............

Hopefully thing are starting to slow down. I'm tired if driving 45 miles to find ammo in stock. I've even found federal bulk .22 but I don't want to pay $98 plus tax for it

Nationally things are slowing down...

I'm not sure things will slow down in CA as quickly with some particularly ominous legislation on the horizon. With a 5 cent tax per bullet and a permit required to even buy ammo, people are going to be stocking up as much as they can before the laws go into effect.

Has Big 5 kept their prices the same? I was in there for the first time since last year for a box of .223 I needed badly for some range work this morning and paid about $18 (with tax) for UMC. Wasn't Remington UMC like $12 a box pre-Sandy Hook?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate they had some and didn't really mind paying the "premium" since I needed it, but I don't really think they have been loyal to their customers. Their Hornady .223 varmint rounds were also going for about $28/box.

I think everywhere else in the country things have slowed. Except here in Komifornia (and other states that have tight restrictions too i.e. NY)
