First things first. Give it a good cleaning (looks like there is still cosmo on it). Give it a good inspection next. If you still feel iffy, take it to a good gunsmith to be checked out. From the looks of your pictures I would have no problem giving it a shot. I would probably use a lower power round to start.

I would defiantly not shoot it with those grips on it.

            I've seen and fixed worse...

so, not too bad for a weapon built 94 years ago.

I would have it checked over by a smith, unless you have the skills to detail strip, clean and lube, reassemble, and function check.

I'd expect to pay for an hour or so of work by a good smith, assuming he doesn't "run into something".

The grips are a trip...find an area with a heavy FSA presence and you can probably get a hundred or so for 'em.

How did you end up with the weapon, if you're willing to say?

Show a shot of the barrel from the chamber side. Other than that, a good cleaning and it looks good to go.. apart from the grips as stated

Looks O.K. I have one that's 100 years old that shoots just fine.

P.S. Sell me those wood Colt grips.

Give it a good cleaning and put on the wood grips.

I would think so. Good cleaning and a nice oil coat. Bang bang!!

What's the story behind this 1911?

I'll go two NOS (New old stock) mags still in the packaging. Is your pistol nickel plated?
