Future of Americans ammo purchase patterns.

While supplies are tight, it seems that there is some light.

I do believe prices will drop, but I don't expect them to drop to what they were a few years back due to cost of raw materials.

Prior to the panic, I didn't keep a lot of target ammo on hand, that is going to change. Do you guys feel the same.

Of course you can never have TOO MUCH ammo, so what I would like to float out is what I would keep as my minimum once crisis is over.

1. 10K rounds 22lr. I will probably be doing more shooting with 22s, getting back to basics.

2. 5K of 9mm target ammo, 500 rounds JHP defense.

3. 2K of 40 cal. target,, 500 rounds JHP defense.

3. 2K of 45 cal target, 500 rounds JHP defense.

4. 500 rounds of 44 mag

5. 500 rounds of 38 special

6. 500 rounds of 10mm

7. 1 K rounds 12 gauge birdshot, 250 rounds buck, 250 rounds slugs.

8, ,223 5K target, 1 K defense rounds.

9 7.62 X 39 5K target.

10 7.62 X 51 1K FMJ.

Of course once I have this base of ammo, then as buying opportunities come up, I will get more ammo.

When supplies do normalize again, I figure that monthly I will probably shoot on average.

1. 500 rounds of 22 lr
2. 100 rounds of 9mm
3 50 rounds 40 cal
4. 50 rounds of 45acp
5. 30 rounds 12 gauge buck, 50 rounds birdshot.

Haven't shot rifles in a few years, but figure I would like to shoot them quarterly.

Say 100 rounds 223
50 rounds 308.

I've been out of the country for a few years and won't be back for a few more so this ammo shortage doesn't effect me. Although when I do come back, I'm going to have at least this stock piled at all times, if time/money permits me.

5k large pistol primers
2k large rifle primers
2k small rifle primers
8# clays (powder)
8# H4350 or H4895
few pounds W296
Along with the appropriate projectiles.

Good list.. This isn't the first nor will it be the last panic buying on ammo. Prices of ammo have tripled and quadrupled in the last decade. I look at it as an investment and locking in prices for my target ammo. It's been nice not "needing" ammo through this panic and shooting whenever I feel like it without worrying. I wait for decent deals to restock what I've shot. Granted the "decent" deals ie. $9 a box for .223's is still triple the price of what I paid 10 years ago for Remington and AE .223's.

Never can have too much ammo IMO.

Focus on a firearm you like, and instead of seeing that new one on sale that you can't live without, purchase some ammo for the firearms you have. I believe two absolute MUST HAVEs are a 22 rifle and a shotgun (12 or 20 ga). The rest is up to you.

500 rounds of defensive ammo, just the 1st 500 I could find of each caliber:

40S&W $220
45ACP $458.70

Are you going to buy that much defensive ammo, or reload it?

I would love to get a bigger stash going, but that defensive ammo is expensive...

I woudl say I would be pretty close to that but since I dont have as many different cal and dont plan to, I would say...

None of the above... As soon as panic calms, I am going head first into reloading. I am going to make my wife want to divorce me due to my supply hoarding. Although, I may get 20k of 22lr because its cheap and why not... Other than that I am not missing the boat on reloading. I would like all my supply to be over 3k per round.
