Group Buys, The purpose is ?

I thought the purpose of Group Buys were to make it so folks could save money buy buying a larger amount so the price is lower than buying alone. There are some on here profiting on the Group Buys they are in charge of, and charging more than you could buy from the original vendor ! .. I am confused about this !!

I have never seen one. There have been some where you might save $10 on a mosin, at the risk of sending your money through a third (or fourth) party. Mine bidness is mine own, I think.

Maybe you shouldn't go around accusing CalGuners of cheating people out of money if you don't have the balls to back up your claims.. Just Saying..

The last group buy I went in on was done thru a vendor. No money went to a specific person but thru the vendor itself. I saved $180 on a Geissele SD3G trigger.

Have you not seen the mosin GB threads? The group buy where the guy running it walked away pocketing like $5,000 from other calgunners? Or the LPK and BB group buys where the organizer just disappeared with a bunch of money? Or the group buy for lowers where the guy organized it kept everyone's money? These aren't exactly secret or anything.

There were that many??? I saw Expertish's little scam, but didn't know about all the other con men. The $25 80% lower will be the next one....

I've participated in group buys and found them fulfilling. Promises delivered, expectations met.

I wouldn't say con-"men", those last 3 I mentioned were all run by the same guy if I recall correctly(freakshow10mm or something like that). Of course GBs do work more often than they fail.

For the OP, not every GB is about saving money. Someone might organize a GB to get a product in a specific color that isn't normally produced and as a result it might cost more per unit, but the GB exists so a group of people can get a large order to justify a production run.

The original group buys before the panic were the better ones, especially for lowers. For some reason Quentin defense and Tactical machining NEVER had the lowers in stock, but the GBs continue. They ran for about $70-90 a lower but the price went up each time. Still low though but a long wait.

Saving $$$ may be one reason for a GB.

What's wrong with the GB organizer making a profit to cover his costs and time?

Finally, if you can't identify the GB that's causing your confusion, why even post.

                      If a buyer likes a seller's price, I don't see the issue.

If YOU don't like the seller's price, move along or gtfo, whichever.

Personally I sent an extra $10 on one group buy because the organizer was putting in so much effort. I stated with the payment that if he didn't feel he deserved it, then donate to CGF. If there was already extra money in the GB price for the organizer, I'm totally fine with that (even expect it), especially since it wasn't noticable in the price.

I ran a group buy on bcm uppers years ago. wasn't even a well established member at the time. went pretty smooth really and everyone saved money. there are crooks everywhere just a risk you have to weigh out if its worth it to you or not. there are more gbs that aren't scams than are but because they go well the threads die.
