    Handgun Safety Certificate question

I'm a first time buyer looking to purchase through the marketplace here.

Should I get the certificate before setting up a face to face with a seller?

I would. What if you didn't pass the test. Although unlikely but I'm sure there has been some people who didn't pass. It would just make the transaction go a lot easier and quicker if you have the HSC ready. Or at least show up 30 mins earlier and get it real quick. Takes like 10 - 15 mins.

    **off topic**
My HSC card is about to expire, if I go back to the place I got it at 5 years ago do they make you do the whole test over again?

Yes you need to take the test again.

I suggest to get a HSC card before doing the transaction. You could take the test while doing ftf but be sure you pass. I'd be pissed if someone didn't have their hsc and I had to drive for hours to get there.

            Here's your test prep:

You pick up a loaded gun at the range. The best place to point it is:

            A) At your own face.
            B) At the guy next to you.
            C) At the R.O. because you didn't like him.
            D) Downrange
            E) Answers A and C.

              Yes do it before.
Sometimes the FFL will not have cards on hand at times or only let people take the test if they are purchasing a firearm from them.

Say what you will about that but remember FFLs have to pay upfront for the testing fee's when they buy the cards and DOJ is often slow on sending them the cards they ordered.

Yes. Get your HSC. Then go shopping.
You can download the HSC study book at the Turners Outdoorsman web site.

Before. So you don't make the other party wait while you are taking it.

To the other question, yes, you just have to take it just like the previous time. Same fee, too.

Before, sometimes the stores run out. What would you do if the store that you are doing the transfer at didn't have any?

                            ABSOLUTELY.

Set the seller and yourself up to win.

It seems a common sense answer, but where gun laws are concerned, we also seem to avoid common sense in this state. I will get my HSC tomorrow.

On a side note, I've spent a good amount of time perusing the site and this is the first thread I've seen where everyone agrees. Thanks all!
