    Gun cleaning stuff

Hey, so I ordered a marlin 795 today and am looking at getting an XD soon and was wondering what stuff I should get for cleaning and maintenance of them?
    Thank you for your time

Froglube! Maybe some CLP/Hoppes9 for tough stuff. Follow directions with the froglube and you shouldn't need the others.

Yep use froglube on all my guns and hoppes on stuff that FL doesn't get, but that happens very rarely.

Boretech's Eliminator is probably one of the best copper/carbon cleaners. Slip2000.com makes some good cleaning solvents and lubes. Weapon Shield and Corrosion X make good gun lubes/protectants.

The other reason I like Boretech is that it will get rid of corrosive primer residue, has almost no smell and you can leave it in your barrel overnight and not worry about it.

Thanks, ill check that stuff out

Edit: So if I get the frog lube will q-tips, a toothbrush, and a rod be fine for keeping the guns maintained?

              good enough

That should cover it, nothing sticks to FrogLube.

This. Make sure to do your first cleaning with a good solvent like Hoppes though. Froglube works as a protective layer to remove future fouling, it doesn't work that great for removing what's already there.

I use hoppe's cleaners and I use froglube and grease or lubricant also depends on which firearm I am working also. Just get the standard cleaning kit and caliber specific jags. The otis stuffs pretty cool too.

So I am thinking of getting rubbing alcohol for the initial cleaning, then sticking with froglube, and using a bore brush and jag. Does that sound fine?

you can always use a cheap cleaning kit for $10

                          but I LOVE these:

Exactly what I did. There are a couple videos on YouTube on the initial treatment process.

I always like to recommend putting together your own kit. You'll buy what you need and you can pick out the good stuff. You'll find that over time that you'll accumulate a whole bunch of stuff each of which will last a long while. The only real cleaning supplies that I make repeat purchases of are cotton patches and CLP which is what I use for cleaning. Small containers of lube will last a long time.
