Mach, what you highlighted in red is exactly what I'm talking about. See, I'm confused. Are they saying my info is suspicious or fraudulent?

what they are saying is that if you have a free type anonymous email account (such as yahoo, hotmail, etc,) that they may ask for your credit card info. This way it prevents idiots from creating accounts on gunbroker with a free type email account and bidding on stuff they have no intention of buying. Personally, I never do business with ANYONE with a yahoo or hotmail type email account.
If your so cheap you cant afford a real email provider, then I probably dont need to be doing business with you.

They aren't not doing business with you. They are requesting your credit card to protect themselves and their members from jerks who win auctions and don't pay or who win auctions and then use stolen credit cards or bad checks. If you decide to become a member you are very well protected from non paying bidders or bidders who pay with bad checks or stolen credit cards.

The easiest way is to just use an email that doesn't raise a flag in their systems. Go sign up for a free email account at a place like http://fastmail.net and use that, your ISP email (@pacbell.net, etc.) or some other email than AOL/Hotmail/Yahoo.

I have one at fastmail.net for just that purpose, the Smith & Wesson forums website has this same stupid check and are anti-gmail/yahoo/etc. The ones you can get from that website will pass muster and leave you alone, no asking for CC stuff.

And let me ask you, how in the hell is someone supposed to know that YOUR free email account is honorable compared to the THOUSANDS of scammers that create email accounts every DAY with those services? Should they all buy crystal balls? The bottom line is that having a REAL email account that has accountability (ie, a way to track it back to the owner) is a good sign when dealing with someone for a internet transaction. Anything else your just asking to take it in the *** when dealing over the internet.

"Buy it NOW" triggers the CC request, too

Made my first "bid/purchase" on Gun Broker in March. I used the buy it now option, but, since it was my first buy, they requested my CC number to charge $1 and verify I was a real buyer. No problem once the charge went through and I got my Marlin.
