Gun show ammo pricing vs online/retail

So I havent been to a gun show in years but im guessing the prices and lines are higher/longer than usual. Im looking at buying around 500-1k rounds of 5.56, 7.62x39 and 9mm ammo. Ive found some local shops/online stores that suprisingly have some good stock and arent price gouging too much. These are the prices ive been quoted and was wondering if it is a good deal to get or if its worth me going to a gun show either this weekend or next and getting a better deal there:

    (all brass casing)
    1k rounds .223 ammo - $575 + tax
    1k rounds 7.62 ammo (non-steel/corrisve) $500 shipped
1k rounds 9mm ammo - $300 no tax, these are reloads though, high quality

I was thinking of going to the crossroads of the west gun show this weekend, or the LAX parking lot sale next week - would prices be any better there or should i just buy them at the prices above?

    Nsimi,

    FWIW, cheapest on gunbot.net today:

    .223 was .34 a round (steel)
    7.62x39 was .28 a round (steel)
    9mm was .28 a round

Of course, you would pay shipping costs, too.

Best way to get ammo is to camp out on gunbot.net - gun shows have parking charge + admission charge + long wait and prices not necessarily that great. Unless you were going to the show already.

I usually use ammoseek.com, but is gunbot any better?

Although I know a bunch of stores have rifle ammo for sale, most of it is steel cased, im looking for brass casings since I have several Ruger Minis I use them in mostly. Im just curious as to what price I can expect at gun show nowadays for brass cased ammo.

I see the lines and skip the gun show ammo, myself. Don't know about the prices at recent shows.

I got 500rds of 9mm for $210. 5.56/.223 was $360 for 500rds. That was the cheapest I saw. This was at the crossroads show last weekend

Wow, that is pretty damn expensive. I might have to pass the shows and just order online. Thanks for the info!

Sign up for a Cabelas Visa and get $5 shipping til the end of the year on ammo. Then check the site frequently.

That's really expensive. At least double what it used to be. I don't plan on visiting another gun show this year. Maybe in 2014, unless there is another false flag

FYI regarding my earlier post. Those prices were for facyory brand new. Not reloads

if that's non-steel/corrosive, meaning: fmj, copper jacket, lead core/brass cased, boxer primed... i'd say that's a hell of a deal.
