Shipping Ammo to Hawaii

Has anyone had experience shipping ammo purchased here in California to family members in Hawaii?

I'm looking to ship some ammo to my father-in-law on Oahu. I've heard you need to ship to a FFL in Hawaii, but looking for more specifics.

Any help is appreciated.

And you'll have to find someone willing to fly it in or send it via sea.

I don't think you need an FFL but the costs of shipping is so prohibitive, that most ammo buyers will get in on a shipment with an FFL to help defray some of the costs.

The problem I've heard from my father-in-law is purely an availability issue not necessarily price....similar to California ... yet with even fewer FFLs to order through.

Like I said, I don't think you need an FFL but you'll need to find a freight forwarding company to get it to the islands. Maybe ask the guys at

My parents live there. Just ship ups, annoumce it. Insured its all good. Not expensive either. I sent a bit of packages there over the year.
