    M1 Garand Bayonets

I was organizing some stuff in my storage and came across four bayonets:

US M5A1, Imperial with US M8A1 PWH scabbard.
US M6, Imperial, with US M8A1 PWH scabbard.
AFH US with US and some kind of flaming symbol on both the bayonet and scabbard.
Spike type bayonet with #'s as the only markings. (don't know what it goes to).

I have a Garand but I'm not the type to collect stuff just to have it and don't see myself ever attaching a bayonet to my Garand. I want to sell them but how do I go about listing the condition? Since they are old items what is considered to be "excellent, good, fair, etc". I think it would be different then a firearm.

The AFH is going to be an M1 bayonet.

The "flaming symbol" is the symbol of the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps. You may notice that a version of the symbol can be found in the Springfield Armory Inc. logo. The U.S. Army Ordnance Corps is in charge of developing and supplying the Army with arms, equipment and ammunition, as well as the maintenance of the above. The stamp means that the bayonet was inspected and approved by the Ordnance Corps.

The bayonet marked AFH, I believe is a garand M1 bayonet. It would have been made by American Fork and Hoe, which was a small farming implement manufacturer that made bayonets for the war effort. I haven't checked prices in a while, but AFH M1s in reasonable condition sold for $100-120. I have no idea if prices have gone up.

In any case, since you have a garand, you should keep it. Just my 2 cents.

The spike bayonet looks like a mosin 91/30 bayonet. I can't imagine you'd get more than $20 to $40 for it, if so.

As for the m5A1 and m6 bayonets, Fulton armory sells those for $50-60 or so, so unless they are somehow rare, I'd guess that is what they are worth.

These are all in pretty nice condition (very good is an appropriate descriptor). I don't see any major condition issues. Just clean the grease off of the M1 bayonet and scabbard. With some nice clear pictures, you don't need to say much about condition, as most everything is visible to the buyer. You can search completed auctions on eBay to see what examples in similar condition to yours are bringing these days.

The socket bayonet is for the Russian Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 rifle.

My 2 cents is to at least keep the longer M10 AFH M1 bayonet as these will go up in value. The M5A1, and the M6 (M14 rifle) will not fetch all that much. Keep and display them on the wall.

The CMP M1 bayonets are Greek returns that were rode hard. I would expect your M1 bayonet to fetch closer to $90-$100.

FWIW, the M6 bayonet is for the M14 (M1A).

I wish I could organize my garage and make a find like that.

I have some old rimfire scopes I need to dust off and see if they are worth anything. By dad was a comp shooter back in the day and I inherited a few treasures.
