Ever had a seller back out?

Recently I was in the middle of purchasing a gun from a individual (I won't give the details - who/what/ect) and at the last minute the person decided not to sell. I guess the person had "2nd thoughts" and decided couldn't let it go. Disappointed? Yup! Frustrated? Yup! A bit ticked off? Yup!
I was a gun that I've wanted for a while and I can get other places but it would have me saved me shipping charges, tax, ect. and it was a damn good deal!

My question to y'all (to use a southern term) is; has it ever happened to you
    and what was your reaction?

    Serious opinions welcome!

Usually it's because they sold it somewhere else or they play games and get more $$ than the posted selling price here.

I've posted minutes after a seller posted OP, and been told - "Others were ahead of you..." whaa ????

Had others where the guy to start working logistics as to where to meet, ect. Silence for days. Then later be told they had sold it.

What can you do to prove it? Nothing.

If the guy is a flake, how do you know he's not lying about condition. Yeah, it sucks, but I think it's probably for the best.

I have had a couple back out on me but there's not much to be done about it.

Could have been a flake, could of had a friend offer to buy it after he mentioned it was for sale, could of simply decided they didn't want to let it go. Not worth getting upset over. It's not the seller's job to ensure you get the best deal possible.

it happens to us all. no biggie. you dont have a right to buy anything from anyone. they're free to change their mind until the sale is actually made. and so are you...

Ya it's happened to me before and will happen again. I've gotten a whole host of excuses.....my favorite; my wife doesn't want me to sell (HA! Since when does wifey not encourage you to sell your guns?) I remember the first time I was very disappointed. Nowadays I don't even count the gun as mine until after the 10 day wait. It gets easier after the first couple of times. Not saying I want it to happen again, but I'm sure it will.

It's not a problem for me as long as I haven't had to trek out to them only to come back empty handed.

I've had to drop out of purchases. Sometimes it can't be helped. Not sure about sales though.

FYI (Prob should've mentioned it before)

It was a C&R-type rifle; so it would have been FTF transfer, since I have a C&R license.

Thanks for the input - I'm glad I'm not only one it's happened to!

Yes, it happens, happens a lot more with all of the FNG's we have in the market place of late. What can you really do though?

The last deal I had that went south, I agreed to the asking price via PM and the guy PM's me back and said that someone else had just offered him 50 bucks more and that if I still wanted it I would have to beat that price and to be quick about it!!!

I pointed it out to Kes, he locked the thread and told the POS OP that this was not an auction site. The deal was done and the guy moved on, oh well.

For the most part transactions go how they should, especially when dealing with veteran members. Case in point, I agreed to purchase some ammo from a guy and he said send payment however you want, I will put it in the mail on Monday. Shoot, I got the ammo the day I put payment in the mail! You have to appreciate guys like that.

he probably got a better offer? If you met up then that's a super jerk move. You should post who it was.
