    Summary of firearms regulations

I am trying to summarize most basic firearms related regulations in place and coming soon. As far as I know it is very easy to miss some important regulations in California for a novice person like me just because of complexity of legislative restrictions and limitations and ongoing changes in the legislation. I read about cases when even people with legal background coming from other states got into trouble because the person was not aware of one or another of local regulations. I will appreciate any feedback if anything is missing or incorrect.
    1. handguns are registered at the time of transfer by the officially registered FFL. I guess it means that no further actions are required on my part upon completion of the handgun transfer.
    2. long guns are not registered through the transfer and their registration is not required as of today. Long gun registration will become mandatory starting Jan 1, 2014. New restrictions to come are described here
A number of extreme gun control measures are currently being pushed through the California Legislature. In California's State Senate, the Committee on Public Safety considered some of the most restrictive pieces of gun legislation yet proposed in California.

    3. AR-15 and AK are considered assault rifles and their registration ended in 2000. Here is the official site with information
Assault Weapons and .50 BMG Quick Links to Topics General FAQs “Other” Assault Weapons Military Assault Weapons Bullet Button Assault Weapons General FAQs What is considered an assault weapon under California law? What are AK and AR-15 series weapons? What is considered a .50 BMG rifle under California law? Can assault weapons and .50 BMG rifles still be registered? I already paid the Dealer's Record of Sale (DROS) fee and went through a DOJ record check when I purchased the firearm. Does that satisfy the registration requirement?

    4. AR15 and not banned AK style rifles with bullet buttons are not considered assault rifles in California as of today. These are long guns (not assault weapon) according to the current definition of AW. This part is the most complicated to me. There are lots of discussions about AR-15 assault rifles. Is it correct to assume that except for items banned on the DOJ list AR-15 based and AK based rifles with bullet buttons or with no features defined for assault rifles are not considered assault rifles?
    5. Firearms regulations and restrictions are available on the following official websites

are there any other official websites with the relevant information?
    6. Hunting shotguns must be limited to 3 rounds maximum in hunting areas. There are no restrictions for rifles and handguns/revolvers besides maximum 10 round capacity of magazines in hunting areas.

Might want to put the SSE pistols in there along with current bills coming though the pipe in regards to any semi auto with a detachable mag will be illigal unless registered as an aw. Also take the last part of #6 off. There are many people who legally hunt with +10 round mags.

You may find the wiki a useful resource - link http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/index.php/Main_Page, especially the Resources section at the bottom of the main page.

ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

That was from my last hunting education class at Coyote Valley. I got a new Benelli shortgun with 3 rounds limit and asked about limitations. The answer was that it is must to have 3 rounds capacity limiter in a shortgun while in a hunting area and as for rifles 10 rounds mags are ok. Last time I stayed with friends in Stanislaus forest the ranger there was friendly but very picky about following all restrictions and limitations in the area. Thanks for the info on SSE pistols.
