You have to qualify in the class with the actual guns that will be listed on the permit.

Several states offer non-resident permits, and some other states will honor those - the states usually have specific agreements with other states.

California does not honor non-LEO CCW from out of state. So, if you live in CA and spend a lot of time out of state, those permits might be useful to you, but they have no value in California.

And that's a loaner gun - one that is borrowed or loaned, not one which exists in social isolation, a loner. Sorry; could not resist.

ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

You actually don't need your handgun during the "class" portion. When I took it, the class lasted about 4 hours, then he told us to come back later for the actual qualification. I did mine the next morning as I was impatient , and I don't remember how long you could wait to qualify. But yeah, you have to qualify with the handgun that's going to be listed on the permit. I had to qualify with two handguns, as I wanted 2 to be on the permit.

I havent seen it mentioned here, but it would be important to be careful with borrowing a firearm with standard capacity magazines. Lending a magazine of greater than 10 rounds would get the lender in some hot water.
