    colt woodsman match target .22

what would you pay for one?

I have seen one in really mint condition i believe it is the third generation possibly late 2nd generation which is the same design - heavy undelug all the way to the muzzel, has simulated woods grips. comes in original card board box and has original test firing target, instruction mannuel, even some extra palstic grip add ons not sure what they are for. the gun shows no marks or scratches or holster wear.

FFL is asking $1,295.00 i had no idea whether this is a good price but after checking on gun broker and guns america the prices seem to go up or under this price.

im looking for a nice .22 pistol and this caught my eye plus i like colts.

    is it worth the price.

Do you want a shooter or Safe Queen?

Too high for a shooter, for sure.

As a Safe Queen I would want to try and get the price down maybe another $100 lower (or more if the grips were changed out). But heck, with the box, target and card it should be a good investment. You can find the proper Walnut grips,

I guess im attracted to safe queens , that i can shoot at the same time -every now and again that is. Ive always had a problem buying things with inperfections in them, as they jump out at me. and if im going to put down anything over $800.00 i want it to be pretty much perfect. the pkg and extras play some roll for me but as long as the gun in in close to mint condition for its age im happy with that. wood grips would be nice but if it didnt come with them originally then i can live with out them. Thanks for your advice.

I think that second series had plastic grips and third series had walnut. Not positive but I think that's correct.

I bought a shooter Match Target Bulleye last year, the trigger guard had been modified to accept a large trigger shoe, the rest of the gun was mint. Four digit serial number second year production first series. Paid $250. Even with the modification It's still a great deal and a fun shooter.

hmm so which is more accurate the out of all 3 editions.

from a visual i prefer the 4 inch barrel full lug than the 1st design, which tends to look like a realy long lugar.

but perhaps the latter design is a better gun?

Well, I'd guess that either the second or third series is likely more accurate, they have a heavier barrel. The first series wins the value contest hands down. Also, much of the first series guns can not be used with high velocity .22 ammo. Any of the three will increase in value (if unaltered). They are all great shooters and easily outclass any other 22 pistol ever made, though a couple of the High Standard models do come close.
