    Weatherby SA-08 12ga question

I have not shot a shotgun in ages...Bought this one and shot it for the first time. I was shooting light loads but the recoil seemed a little over the top. Now, more embarrassing is I had to talk to the girl at the counter about it (she's a comp trap shooter) and she basically says in the nicest way either 1. I am a wussy or after picking the gun up 2. The gun is super light and might have something to do with it... Anyone experience the same thing? Not knowing anyone here I am sure to get some "Its #1" comments but, does the lightness of the gun really affect the recoil that much?

Of course weight will affect felt recoil(that pesky thing known as physics). But so does an improperly fitting gun, or improperly shouldering it.

While physics may not be something you can change, it could be the other things as well. Length of pull can be increased with pads(or decreased in some instances with a thinner pad, or cutting a wooden stock shorter). Where you're putting the shotgun on your shoulder can make a difference as well.

I think I will eat some pride and ask the girl at p2k ... Competition trap shooter has gotta know something. Maybe I am doing it wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

^^^ this. I have a SA-08 12 Gauge. I never thought of recoil. But I also broke it in on Dove opening day when I bought it, so I was a little distracted. I wasn't sore if that counts???
