Becoming a gunsmith

if this is a repost I apologize, I tried searching but didnt find anything specific to this topic...but I could have missed it. If I did I would appreciate if you guys could redirect me.

Anyways,

I am interested in becoming a gunsmith or involved in someway with weaponry. But I have no idea how to become one. I have been reading online that the two best ways is to go to an accredited school or become an apprentice of an already qualified gunsmith.....but which way is the best?

This website http://www.becomeagunsmith.com/ has a course for $100 to become accredited and get your FFL, but I have no idea if its any good. Should I go through a course like this and learn some basics (because I know little to nothing about guns currently besides I know I like to shoot them(learned a little about the M14 in my MCJROTC class))

Or should I just go out and talk to a gunsmith and see if they will teach me?

You can learn what stuff looks like from a correspondence course but you can't learn how to work on it that way.

Lassen College, Colorado school of trades and Trinidad college (CO) all have good reputations for hands on training. Apprenticing is hard to do now days because of the Worker's Comp laws, liability insurance requirements, etc.

Lassen is definitely highly recommended.

Learning gunsmithing on the web or by mail is like learning to ride a bicycle online...gunsmithing schools usually have you working on a gun v. classroom time about 3 to 1.
