    LGS ripoffs... what gives?

I make it a point to go through LGS's when I am near them and for the most part it seems that they are price gouging like crazy and it sucks. Now mind you as I have said before, I am new... I only have a few firearms and I am new to feeling like every penny I have should go to them. However, in my short time, it seems like the LGS's are over charging on everything. I am in the market for m&p 15-22 so I swung by a few lgss and one was 700 the other was 675. So I started searching here for a used one... Somehow I made my way to turners which always has a long line so I never look at guns there... This day it was empty... I ask to see a few guns then make my way over to m&p ... 450. Wow, must be on sale... It is on sale, normal price...475. Same gun same model... Wtf? I bought it right then and there.

Some people on this board give Turners a lot of crap, but I've bought half a dozen guns there over the years and have always gotten good service and reasonable prices. I always check Turners when I'm looking for a new gun. If you're just recently starting to buy and plan to buy more I'd suggest you do the same.

Disclaimer: I do not and never have had any affiliation with Turners other than happy customer.

Yep, you keep looking for best price, or don't buy. Best way to lower prices I know of...

I know! Plus the idea of shopping around before plopping down the cash to buy something the first time you see it just seems so crazy!

Same story on my marlin 795. Called 3 gun stores all priced at $200. Walked into turners and its $149. Bought it from turners.

I know I am new so it sucks that I already have a rant post but it just seems odd to me. Although, I assume that like walmart, Turners gets some sort of volume discount that LGS won't. $50 difference I understand... But $700 vs. $450 just seems like price gouging. However, its their store, they can do what they want and charge what they want...I just won't make it a point to stop there anymore.

Smaller gun shops are not getting much inventory so they have to raise prices on what they get just to keep the lights on. That does not mean you cannot negotiate a price that works for both the buyer and the seller.
The art of negotiation is a valuable skill to learn.

The LGS doesn't have the deep pockets or influence over suppliers the big boxes do. They have very limited inventory, but their overhead outside of COGS remains constant and demand has sky rocketed. If you were feeding your and your employees families out of a store, what would you do? Starve over principal while Turners and Basspro are beating master suppliers over the head with their bully sticks and getting inventory?
It is not an even playing field. Just look at what WalMart has done to small businesses.
