This past school year. The events you mentioned were before my time @ ASC, so I know nothing of that.

I'm currently a UCSD student that was in contact with some of the heads of the Club last year. I've been trying to arrange trips or at least meet up to discuss the status of the club and see what's up, but I've been unable to contact anyone I was in contact with. As far as I'm concerned, the club is officially dead and has been since at least last year (which is when I first had "contact" with some people in the club). I wouldn't mind starting it back up fresh, but I haven't seen much support for it at all and am rather apprehensive about starting up something that is time consuming and might not even fly.

ASC has gone out of its way above & beyond on two occasions for the UCSD Marksmanship club, anyone who says different is ignorant.

The first time they visited ASC they had a handful of shooters with ZERO practical experience, many of whom were under 21. ASC staff provided them with 30 minutes of classroom instruction at no charge, gave them 2 lanes on the range on the busiest day of the week, and multiple rental guns and ammunition all at a discount.

If they do their shooting now @ Iron Sights I would suggest the reason they do so is likely because Iron Sights takes their word for it that they know what they are doing when I could tell you from 2 minutes with them that their "experience" was from books/games.

If the San Diego ranges are so "*****ty" (what word is that supposed to be anyway?) why don't you give them some constructive criticism so they can improve?

This sounds familiar to me since I might have been the person organizing the trip for these occassions, but different all the same. While I did manage to arrange two trips together last year, with little help from what was supposed to be the UCSD Marksmanship Club (being defunct, as it were), the only similarities between my experience and what you have stated is that we were under 21, there were a handful of shooters, we got 2 two lanes during the busiest day of the week on the first trip (Saturday?), and we made a second trip (where only three people did show up). The rest, if you are referring to our excursions, is not true.

As far as I know, our two trips were the only "official" trips made by the UCSD Marksmanship Club last year. Since I could barely get into contact with what was supposed to be the leadership of the club, I am not aware if they made other trips and made the impression they did.

Cause the other 1-2 ranges down in SD(DGM and American Shooting) are *****ty. Notice they have a pic of American shooting, but they dont put their website up and they have the website and directions to ironsights...that should tell you something.

You are 100% incorrect about ASC. It is an excellent indoor facility, and for the most part the staff are extremely polite and personable. DGM isn't bad either, except it's a pistol-only facility.

As I said earlier, every shooting event I ever coordinated was full to capacity and had to tell many people they couldn't come because it was full. We usually rented the entire ASC on the school's dime and toward the end occupied the whole 100m range at South Bay Rod and Gun.
We also had over 600 people on our list serv.

I can give you tips on how to get money from the school each quarter as well.

I hope someone here has enough time to revive the club, but at least it's good to know that there are at least several ucsd members. If reviving the club isn't a possibility we can just plan trips to the range together without club affiliation.

Two completely different structures and funding mechanisms. The Club was by far easier as it had less red tape than the Team.
Is the old archery range still out there? (Across from Scripps Hospital, west of the Eye Center. Assuming both of those are still there! LOL, it's been near 15 years...)

It is just past the ropes course by North Parking (one of the shuttle lots). Granted, i haven't been there in 4 years, but it was there when I left.

Wouldn't you know it, I also visit the archery range when I get the chance. The range is still here, yes, but the Team is dead. The Club shoots every Sunday 10-12 AM IIRC, and Tuesdays and Thursdays around 6:00 PM if I remember right (I could never seem to make those times so I only remember the Sunday time). Funding for the club is on a voluntary basis only (they ask for about 50 cents every session), as they don't get school support anymore, as I understand it.

That's really too bad, a lot of time went into that and we usually placed in the top 3 at matches (best was when we kicked the snot out of UCLA and I took first. Ah, the glory days. I shot recurve for competition, compound for hunting.

Just curious (and a long shot) but my wife started the Ice Skating Club there, do you know if it is still around?
